The name Comrat consists of two words of Turkic origin “komur-at”, which means “black horse”. One of the legends says that a certain khan named the village in honor of his horse, who carried the wounded owner from the battlefield. Gagauzia îs a place I have dreamt about going to for years but never did. In 2018, I read an ethnography about the Gagauz people and have been fascinated ever since. Thankfully, this tour allowed me to see the pages I read about. My favorite parts of the tour were visiting the village of Besalma where the National Gagauz History and Ethnographic Museum is. Igor was a great guide, he answered my questions and was cool to be around.
