Fly down the 'world’s most dangerous road' on this thrilling mountain-biking adventure! Leave from a high-altitude plain near La Paz, and follow expert guides downhill for 40 miles (64 km) on a narrow, winding road carved into the side of the incredible Andes. Take breaks along the way to admire the landscape that changes from the snowcapped Andes to the lush Amazonian jungle. This is one of the most incredible experiences in South America, and one you'll want to do with the most reccomended company in Bolivia, which uses international safety standards and ensures incredible service. After the riding adventure, unwind at La Senda Verde Ecotourism Resort, an animal refuge, where you’ll enjoy lunch and observe rescued wildlife. Return to La Paz the same day, or stay overnight at La Senda Verde or in Coroico. This is one you'll be telling the grandkids, so do it right!

5.00What an absolute highlight of our Bolivia stay. So glad we went with Gravity Tours for our trip - Damien and the team were professional, friendly and fun - they knocked it out of the park. The bikes were in great working order and they supply you with suits, gear, sandwiches, water and snacks. Everything was tip top - they think of everything. The only thing you have to prepare is layering and bringing a change of clothes - especially dry socks and shoes for the trip back - as you will get muddy and wet! Now for the big gem - the Yungas. The first third is a fast downhill on a paved road - good for getting used to the bikes. The second third is steep, winding and rocky ground - the toughest part. The last third is gravel, wider and a bit less steep - allowing for more technical, faster riding. It really is quite amazing to start the day at altitude in snow and finish it in the jungle, a descent of ~3,000 m. They provide opportunities to remove layers, drink water and take photos along the way. Maybe worth using the facilities when you can, though, as they are not always available or open. As far as the term “Death Road” - is it dangerous? Yes and no. It’s the old adage of “respect the mountain.” The guides were very good about telling us about upcoming hazards and so on. The road is truthfully plenty wide enough for biking. What really is astounding is that they used to have two way traffic on this road with buses, trucks etc. Quite incredible to imagine how they managed that. The frequent memorials and crosses along the way are a testament to the victims the mountain has claimed. As far as biking goes, you don’t need to fear. We didn’t have any real mountain biking experience and got by great. I wouldn’t recommend it for kids or for your 65 year old mother, but for a healthy, fit adult it’s not an issue. Our group consisted of a mix of men and women in their 20s to 40s. Having said that you need to be very attentive to the road and have a good bike. People can and do still die and get seriously injured biking here - if you trip up near the edge and go flying over the cliff, it’s sayonara. I think in the last two decades there have been several dozen fatalities on the various bike tours, a few per year. Plus you can have landslides and stuff that mess with the road. Add in tough visibility with the fog, and slippery roads after it rains. The drop off is steep and there are only occasional guardrails. So basically, don’t be overconfident or stupid - phone in the pocket, two eyes on the road, two hands on the brakes. The bigger worry for most people might be the physical toll. It’s not really a lot of cardio because you’re mostly going downhill. But your hands will be wringing if you keep a death grip on the handlebars, and your muscles can seize up if you don’t vary your stance. The guides do a good job of taking breaks which help, and eventually you reach a good flow state where you figure out the balance nicely. Great fun and you can cap it off with a beer and meal at the animal sanctuary with the new friends you’ve met along the way.

5.00We had a great day with Damian and the rest of the team! The guides were very friendly and explained everything very precisely. We also kept making stops where they prepared us for the next stage. My wife didn't ride a bike, but she could ride the minibus. This was a great solution for us as we did not return to La Paz at the end of the tour but continued to Coroico. They organized and paid us for the taxi.

5.00Gravity is THE BEST! They gave us all the protective gear and awesome full suspension bikes. On top of that, we were so well taken care of by our guides, Kenny & Ruben as well as our driver, Miguel. I will never forget this ride! It is true that the ride can be dangerous but I loved how much emphasis the guides put on safety. We rode and stopped at various points and the guides would prepare us for the next bit ahead. Honestly, follow the rules and you will have an amazing time! There are so many tour companies out there, but HIHGLY recommend going with Gravity!

5.00Absolutely fantastic experience. I contacted the company by WhatsApp and got a response right away. Was able to book for the next day. The guide Noel was very patient and careful, we got all the instructions before the start and during the breaks in the ride. There was a second guide who was fantastic and was very committed to getting many pictures and videos of everyone and a great driver as well. We had breakfast, 2 snacks and a lunch. Plenty of water and the company brings and oxygen tank as well. Overall the day was extremely satisfactory. 10/10 I will be recomending this company

5.00Amazing bike ride with Gravity! It’s a must-do for anyone who likes being on a bike. Do yourself a favor and book with Gravity - we felt safe and well taken care of the entire time. They are the company with the best track record for safety, not unimportant when doing an activity called the “death road”. Noel, Abel and Johnny were a great team! Johnny drove us safely all day long on challenging roads, Abel kept the bikes in great shape and made sure everyone got their photos in. Noel is probably the best tour guide I’ve experienced in three months of traveling through South America! Gravity is also the only company that ends the ride at an animal refuge - where you have the opportunity to see many endangered animals have a second chance at life, an amazing experience overall!
