The Namgyal Monastery, also known as Namgyal Tantric College, is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery located in McLeod Ganj, near Dharamshala in the state of Himachal Pradesh, India. It holds significant importance as it serves as the personal monastery of the 14th Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism. Namgyal Monastery was established in the 16th century by the Second Dalai Lama, Gendun Gyatso, and was later expanded by the Third Dalai Lama, Sonam Gyatso.
Kalachakra Temple
The Kalachakra initiation is an important and advanced ritual in Vajrayana Buddhism, particularly within the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. It encompasses teachings on cosmology, astronomy, astrology, and various spiritual practices. The Kalachakra deity is a central figure in this ritual, symbolizing the concept of time and the interconnectedness of all phenomena. Throughout the initiation, monks meticulously create a detailed mandala using colored sand, and once completed, it is ritually destroyed to symbolize the impermanence of all things. The ceremony is attended by Buddhist practitioners seeking spiritual enlightenment and a deeper understanding of the Kalachakra teachings.

A very good quick tour for people with not much time in the area. We were oarticularly interested in the sites connected with the Dalai Lama, and we wanted to see the monks debating. The tour company kindly adjusted our pick-up time to accommodate this. We saw what we wanted to see and also the views from Naddi, a walk through the village there and a stop at Dal Lake. It was definitely wortg doinf and we were very happy with our guide.
