Royal Palace
Already at the end of the 10th century, Vikings built a pile barrier at this site, and in the 12th century, a defensive fort stood here. In the mid-13th century, it developed into a medieval castle with a curtain wall, courtyard, and several buildings—Stockholm Palace. From 1588, it was called "Tre Kronor" (Three Crowns). On May 7, 1697, the Great Palace Fire occurred, and the old Tre Kronor castle was completely destroyed...
Stortorget
This is the most central place in the Old Town, and it has been Stockholm's focal point since ancient times. This was where people met and where trade was conducted. In 1563, it was decreed that all trade should be conducted at Stortorget rather than in the smaller squares around the city. But this square was known for more than just commerce; executions were also carried out here.
