On this tour, you will experience Bonaire's Donkey Sanctuary - a habitat created to rescue donkeys needing extra care, food and water. You will interact with the donkeys throughout the drive as they regularly "say hello" and attempt to put their noses through the car window! You can also purchase a few carrots at the sanctuary to feed a few lucky donkeys while on your visit.
At the sanctuary, you will also see a few other things. The Special Care Unit is an area of the sanctuary where we will learn about the services provided to bring a distressed donkey back to health. You can also visit the garden, where you will see local plants, tortoises, and iguanas.
Climbing the watchtower will give you a great view of the entire sanctuary and an excellent photo opportunity. We'll round out our visit with a refreshing drink from the terrace, where you can spot some beautiful pink flamingos over the salt lake.

5.You may bring vegetables or fruit pieces to feed the donkeys
Before the Tour:
Hotel or apartment guests: For the meeting, please meet your guide at the reception, and if you are staying at an apartment; your driver will be at the address you provided on the booking.
Cruise Ship guests: Your guide will welcome you with your first name or last name on a sign in front of the cruise ship exit/enter gate where your ship is docked. As you walk away from your ship, you will be approaching a security checkpoint gate. When you exit the gate, walk straight forward, and look straight ahead. Your guide will be there 15 minutes before the start of your tour to collect you.
Very IMPORTANT: If you don't see your guide with your name, please stay at the gate of your ship and do NOT walk away and look for your guide; let your guide look for you.
We GUARANTEE to have you BACK TO THE SHIP 1 hour before the ship departure time.
This is a small group guided tour of up to 7 people per vehicle. You will be in a shared van, car, or pick-up depending on the number of guests.
Our prices include a 6% government tax.
Our goal is for you to leave the Island happier than when you arrived.

Please Note: If your tour starts at 08:30, your guide will pick you up 15 minutes (08:15) before the start time of your tour. Non-Cruise Passengers: For the meeting, please meet your guide at the reception, and if you are staying at an apartment; your driver will be at the address you provided on the booking. Your guide will be arriving at your pick-up location at 15 minutes before the start of your tour to pick you up. We will notify you if there are any changes.
Kralendijk
At the start of the tour, we will tell you about the downtown area of Kralendijk. Downtown Kralendijk consists of a few streets and is easily walkable. Kaya Grandi is the Main Street, where you will find most shops, restaurants, and cafes. After the tour, we can drop you off in the centre if you want to do some shopping and walk around. If you're on a cruise, the ship port is about a 5-minute walk from the downtown district, and you can easily see and walk back to your ship before departure.

5.00The donkey sanctuary was a really fun and different experience. Being able to drive through and interact with the donkeys was something we won’t forget—they’re all so friendly and full of character. You can tell the people running it truly care about the animals, which makes it even more enjoyable knowing you’re supporting a good cause. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in Bonaire!

3.00My wife had heard about this and does love donkeys. I like donkeys and other animals as well, but have to state this is a fairly typical Caribbean tourist trap. The two young men who were our tour guides were wonderful and we enjoyed talking with them. But this is a sanctuary with 800 donkeys - which is a lot of donkey poop. It’s hot, dusty, and the smell is intense. The donkeys are cute but be forewarned.

5.00The Cave Tour with Shekhinah Tours we booked through my shore excursions was one of the absolute highlights of our stay on Bonaire. The tour was superbly organised, varied and impressive from start to finish. Our guide Mar did an outstanding job. His local knowledge, peace and enthusiasm for the caves can be felt at all times. He explains understandably, takes time to answer questions and manages to create a relaxed, safe and at the same time fascinating atmosphere. You immediately notice that he is not simply unwinding a program, but doing his work with real passion. And after I had left my phone in his car and it was delivered to me within 20 minutes after contacting me directly to the Aida, you realize that a lot of importance is still placed on the people here. The selected caves were impressive, partly surprising and far from mass tourism (there were four of us on this tour). Just the right mix of adventure, nature experience and background knowledge. If you want to experience more on Bonaire than just the famous spots, you should definitely do this cave tour. Shekhinah Tours and Mar in particular stand for quality, authenticity and a real experience. Anytime again.

5.00I really recommend this tour. We had Arturo and he was great. Very understanding. I was worried I wouldn't be able to do it. It's very physical but Arturo made it doable and fun.

1.00It cancelled. I understand people get sick. I hope they are well. The tour company was upfront about the cancellation. Still haven’t been refunded though.
