It was so good we scheduled a second day before we’d even finished the first. That should say something. A testament to the guide's flexibility, we effectively combined this tour with the 'foodie' tour. From the start, the whole experience was completely stress-free. We explored some truly stunning landscapes and visited tucked-away restaurants we never would’ve discovered on our own. What really set this tour apart was the way it was run: instead of charging per site or sticking to a rigid itinerary, our guide, James, worked on a per day basis and let us shape the day however we wanted. If we wanted to linger at a waterfall taking photos or spend an extra hour at lunch, it was totally up to us. No pressure, no rushing. James was great — super knowledgeable about the area’s history and geography, and always ready with a story or a fun fact. More than that, he was genuinely friendly and accommodating, making the whole thing feel more like hanging out with a local friend than a formal tour. If you’re visiting Dumaguete and want a tour that’s flexible, fun, stress-free, and run by someone who really knows their stuff, I can’t recommend this highly enough.

Best tour ever with James . 7 of us went. Myself from USA and 6 Filipino friends. Very nice van. James was the guide and he had a driver with him. Saw so much nature up close and lots of water fun. Very informative as well. Adults and children will love it. Will definitely use James again!

We booked James for 3 days of private touring towards the end of our trip in Dumaguete end of March 2025. Our shared regret was that we didn't call on him earlier. James tailored every day to our desire and showed us places we wouldn't have known about or not been able to access without him. We were excited and grateful for every place he showed us. He is not only a great guide but also a great person that is fun to hang out with. If you have the opportunity to book this, we highly recommend him!

James was absolutely wonderful!!! He was so knowledgable about everything and we were truly quizzing him about everything in Negros and Philippines etc. he was very kind, punctual, and the car was clean. The sights he showed us would not otherwise have been possible to reach and we are very thankful we had the chance to join his tour. Biggest bonus and USP is of course that he speaks perfect English which made a big difference. We would gladly use him again and highly recommend him to all!!

My son and I were in the Philippines primarily on a scuba diving safari trip and decided to take a one-day break from the water to explore the land portion of Negros Oriental. We’re so glad we found Dumaguete Tours in English—and especially our guide, James Todd—because the day turned out to be one of the most memorable parts of our journey. James, an American expat with deep roots in the local community, led us on an informative and engaging tour of the eastern side of Negros Island. He provided an access point into the culture, history, and everyday life of the Philippines in a way that even our extensive pre-trip research hadn’t uncovered. His knowledge opened doors—literally and figuratively—to hidden treasures and local experiences that we simply wouldn’t have found on our own. The day began with a hotel pickup in a clean, air-conditioned vehicle. James took the time to discuss our interests—primarily focused on the island’s natural highlights, including rivers, waterfalls, hot springs, and other local gems. He customized the day accordingly—and then some. Throughout the tour, he shared a wealth of insight on the island’s culture and history. He also provided us with an unexpected and fascinating facet of the region: its food culture. Acting as a local food expert, James introduced us to a variety of regional snacks and delicacies. We made several well-timed stops to sample items that were completely new to us—each one more interesting and delicious than the last. The entire experience added an unexpected and enriching dimension to our trip. What started as a diving-focused vacation became something much more meaningful, thanks to James and his thoughtful, flexible approach. This was more than just a tour—it was a window into the heart of Negros. Five stars, without hesitation.

Dumaguete is a hidden gem for budget travelers! The city has a laid-back vibe, friendly locals, and plenty of affordable things to do. Rizal Boulevard is perfect for a relaxing stroll, and the street food (especially tempura and silvanas) is delicious and cheap. Day trips to Apo Island for snorkeling with sea turtles or visiting Casaroro Falls are unforgettable experiences. The city is also a great gateway to nearby destinations like Siquijor. Everything—from food to transportation—is budget-friendly, making it a perfect place for an affordable yet amazing adventure!

We had a great time with James exploring the island. He was very knowledgeable, was careful with our safety on slippery rocks and really made an effort to cater our trip to our interests which was exploring hikes and eating great local food. He even suggested a sulfer soap and brought us to a pharmacy to help with my jellyfish stings from scuba diving. (Definitely helped, btw James, thanks!). Hope to be back and explore more with James!
