Scotland’s second-most-popular tourist attraction as you learn about the bloody history including stories of the kings and queens who lived in this castle.
There is evidence of a fort here for almost 3000 years, and it has been a royal castle since at least King David I’s reign in the 12th century. The Scottish monarchs continued to use it until 1633, and even saw the birth of King James VI within its walls.
Your tour will begin on the Royal Mile, then take you to the castle, where you will hear your guide talking about the origins of the castle and its sieges.
Once inside the castle walls, the guide will take you through the different parts of the fortress and tell you its fascinating history. Inside the complex, you will find three museums, two prisons, a canine cemetery, the Chapel of Saint Margaret, the National Monument to the fallen of Scotland, the Great Hall, and a Royal Palace.(ENTIRE TOUR WILL REMAIN OUTDOORS; buildings are not accessible during the tour.)

Please note in poor weather conditions the tour will remain outdoors as access to the castle buildings is not available for tour groups
Tour will be inside the castle walls, but outdoors, with free time after the tour to to explore the castle an to go inside every building (Museums, Royal Palace, prisons, and much more). We can not access those buildings during the tour, but the tour will still be carried out within the castle grounds.
The castle is a complex of buildings, not a single building.
On this tour you will be guided around Edinburgh castle, with specific stops assigned by the castle authorities.
Bags over 30L in volume are not allawed inside the castle.

5.00Ross was incredibly knowledgeable about Scottish history and Edinburgh Castle! Although this tour is not allowed to go inside the castle rooms, the exterior tour with Ross definitely made the later self-guided tour more enjoyable for my family. My daughters were pointing out artifacts and historical points we had learned on the tour with Ross, making our time more efficient and enjoyable. Thank you for a fun and memorable experience!

5.00Highly recommend taking a guided tour of the castle to get the in depth history of the castle. Our guide was so informative and also pointed out all the interesting places to visit inside the castle with your ticket. Highly recommend this tour.

2.00With this tour you never went into any of the buildings. Every 5 ft we would stop and stand for 25 minutes to hear stories and history. We were interested in the history but not standing for 1 hour and 30 minutes outside of the castle without going in. Over half our group ended up leaving half way through to start their own tour. Way over priced and not worth the money for the tour. Buy your own castle ticket and do a self guided tour.

5.00I did the Edinburgh Castle Guided Walking Tour with Entry Ticket and it was well worth adding to our Edinburgh itinerary. The tour is about 1.5 hours and gives you a strong overview of the castle’s history, architecture, and importance before you go off on your own to explore further. What We Liked: • Guide quality — Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly, mixing solid facts with stories that made the history memorable. Other travelers mentioned that guides like Joe, Sonia, Ignas, and others across tours were engaging and approachable, which keeps things feeling fun even in colder or windy weather. • Great intro to the castle — The tour walks you up from the Royal Mile and gives context that really helps once you’re inside the castle grounds. • Included entry — The ticket includes entry and you get time after the tour to explore the inside (museums, Old Royal Palace, war exhibitions, etc.) at your own pace.

4.00Excellent tour by Elizabeth who presented loads of interesting information in a great way lighting what was a wet and windy day. Throughly enjoyed the tour. Disappointed that the tea room was booked only but the café on site served amazing food and drinks at reasonable prices.
