Our 16 mile (25 km) long Sky to Sea route takes us to the highest and lowest points of Edinburgh accessible by tarmac on a choice of manual bike or one of our popular pedal assist e-bikes, for a more relaxed experience.
Visit our very own volcano, Arthur's Seat, with its panoramic views across the city, to the golden sandy beaches and sea views at Portobello. We also pay a visit to the Port of Leith, with over 600 years of maritime history, and the Georgian New Town, a UNESCO world heritage site with it's private parks and grand town houses.
Transport to the start of the route is provided free of charge from the city centre, in our custom bike bus. Your tour will end centrally, close to the Waverley Station.

Our family of four (me, my wife and our two daughters ages 18 and 20) booked the Sky to Sea manual tour for our first full day in Edinburgh hoping to enjoy a tour of the city and get some tips for other things to see and do while in Edinburgh and Scotland. Our guide, Johann from Tartan Bicycle Company, picked us up at our hotel which was a nice personal touch, and the tour exceeded our expectations. We've enjoyed several bike tours in other European cities and the Tartan Bikes were the best manual bikes we've used. The tour was the expected 5 hours in total from hotel pickup to finish and the mood and pace was very relaxed and friendly. Edinburgh is quite hilly so we had some moments of hard peddling but Johann didn't rush us and told us to walk our bikes if needed. The tour took us to several areas in the city including the sandy beachfront, a great view from the highest point in Edinburgh, Arthur's Seat, and several interesting landmarks and places of note in between. Johann also offered suggestions for restaurants and other places to visit during our visit, all of which have been great recommendations and thoughtfully answered all our questions. Getting a tour directly from the owner was a fantastic experience and we hope to visit again in the future for a Highlands tour. We highly recommend Sky to Seat tour with Tartan Bike Tours.

The tour takes you from the hills all the way down to the sea, and it was brilliant. You cover so much ground and see parts of the city that just don't come up on a bus tour or a walking tour — felt like we got a really good look at Edinburgh rather than just the usual spots. Johann was great! Bikes were perfect. Would 100% recommend this to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

If you ever want the best experience in Edinburgh, you have got to do this tour! My son and I were in Scotland for a week and this is by far our most favorite thing we did well in Scotland. Ricardo so much fun and so knowledgeable about Edinburgh and Scottish history. It was so much fun going off the beaten track and seeing things outside of the hustle and bustle of the city. If I ever return to Edinburgh, my son and I would definitely do this tour all over again. I’m honestly not exaggerating when this was our favorite part of our Scotland tour. We had perfect weather, and I cannot believe the beauty you see going off the beaten path to the beautiful part of Edinburgh. And don’t you know that the Scottish invented everything! (Inside joke)

Excellent guide for our trip around Edinburgh. A really interesting tour - we saw so much and Johnas was very knowledgeable about the city Accommodating for both myself, an experienced cyclist and my wife who had little cycling experience.

I've done a lot of things in Edinburgh but this off the beaten path idea tops them all. Johan was fantastic! We spent half a day covering 18 km's. We saw Colinton tunnel, the canal, cherry trees at the univresity, all around Arthur's seat, Portabello beach and Leith. He also gave us a great suggestion for lunch. I never felt tired and I saw so many sites. I highly recommend this company!
