Nathan is a professional portrait photographer by trade, which is something you’d be hard pressed to find on any other Aurora tour in Fairbanks. He was a full time wedding photographer for 10 years before becoming an aurora portrait photographer, which he's done for over 7 years. Other tours offer “free portraits” but not to the level of expertise that Nathan provides. He uses controlled supplemental studio lighting to achieve unmatched quality and sharpness, using techniques he developed over 7 years of practicing aurora portraiture. We also provide complementary gear to help keep you warm and safe: hand/toe warmers, headlamps, water bottles etc. What everything boils down to is great photos and a personal experience. The photos speak for themselves and we want to get you some of your own. Not only will you have a top tier photographer as a guide but Nathan also has more than 20 years of Alaska artic wilderness survival skills and offers expertise in all things Alaska adventure.

We drive 15-40 miles north of Fairbanks to one of many excellent viewing locations. We set up a cozy heated warming shelter and offer complimentary gourmet pizzas, hot out of our 930 degree stone fired pizza oven. Also, hot cocoa, coffee, Chai Tea, apple cider and black tea. This adventure always delivers a memorable experience with lots of fun extras to do while we wait for the aurora to appear. 5.00It was a great experience. Cold and windy night, and Nathan took care of us. Very knowledgable. Great pics. We had great aurora that night. He knew were to go for the great views. He was pretty excited about what we saw that night too. Highly recommend.

5.00An amazing tour! Nathan was knowledgeable and funny while discussing the science behind the northern lights. Enjoyed the small tour group. We were all comfy, cozy and warm in his tent. We saw an amazing light show and have wonderful professional pictures to show off.

5.00Nathan came get prepared, with us sitting in an ice fishing tent, pizza oven, hand and toe warmers, etc. he was very knowledgeable about the northern lights, conditions, how it happens, and more. He also took incredible pictures of us, both with light painting and with the Aurora borealis. We had a wonderful experience. I couldn't recommend this tour enough

5.00Nathan works hard to give you a great small group experience. I don’t see how anyone could do better. I have to admit, at the beginning of the night, I was a little skeptical because Aurora was faint to the naked eye and I was more concerned with what I could see than photos, BUT after hot pizza in his warming tent, Aurora became more and more intense and put on some amazing, almost continuous displays!! AND we got our professional pics the next morning. He obviously loves his job and I highly recommend this tour!!

5.00Nathan was informative and kept the energy level at a good pace so you never even noticed the time lapsing! I love the small group atmosphere and the people we were with were awesome (I think in no small part to Nathan’s personality). I would definitely recommend him to anyone who wants to do an Aurora tour. His warming tent helped so much and the pizza was good and filling. Loved it!

5.00If you’re coming to Fairbanks during aurora season, do not miss this tour! Nathan is the real deal. A kind, genuine person, he brings a unique approach to viewing the northern lights. After picking up the group in his spacious van, he drives out to the viewing location and sets up a warm, cozy shelter complete with chairs, heaters, and a vented pizza oven. The group’s comfort is always foremost in his mind. After an engaging conversation with the group while snacking on pizza, we go outside for professional photo shoots under the aurora. Later on, we enjoy hot drinks and warm cookies. Then Nathan packs everything up and drives us back to our pickup spots. A delightful experience, which I wouldn’t hesitate to repeat.

This phrase perfectly describes our experience with Nathan, who is not only a great guide and an excellent photographer, but also a wonderful person. I would return to this tour a thousand times. I think the combination of great people, pizza, cookies, excellent conversation, and breathtaking northern lights made this tour a dream come true.

5.00What an amazing tour.! Nathan was informative and funny while providing a top rated 5 star service. We had pizza, hot beverages and warm cookies. He runs a small tour group which makes it even better. We were all comfy, cozy and warm in his tent. It made the experience even better as who wants to spend their entire time just sitting in a van waiting for the aurora to start. We saw an amazing light show and have wonderful professional pictures to show off. Do yourself a favor and book with Nathan. You won’t regret it.
