Safety and Gear Tips for Cave Climbing Climbing level: 3 to 4 (moderate to somewhat difficult) Hike requirements: Moderate fitness Site notes: Slightly elevated, sometimes requiring use of hands for climbing, with some loose rocks 1. Wear appropriate clothing: • Flexible and comfortable sportswear. • Strong, non-slip shoes, preferably climbing shoes or sneakers with good rubber soles. 2. Useful additional gear: • Climbing stick for balance while walking and ascending. • Helmet to protect the head from falling rocks. • Gloves to help grip rocks and ropes. • Small backpack containing water, light snacks, and a bell or whistle for emergencies.

• Pickup from your hotel in Tabuk or Sharma, followed by a scenic drive through the striking landscapes of Hasma desert and mountains. A restroom stop will be available along the way (after 1.5 hours). • First stop: Arrival at Mount Sinai area. Prepare for the hike. A short 10-minute walk takes us to the Altar of Moses, where your guide will share a brief explanation. • Begin the hike to Elijah’s Cave, which takes about 1.5–2 hours depending on fitness level. At the cave, we’ll rest for about an hour, enjoy a light snack, and take in the peaceful atmosphere. From a nearby rock, you’ll also be able to spot the Black Peak in the distance and admire the surrounding dramatic mountains. • Start the descent (around 2 hours) back down the mountain. • A short 10-minute walk leads us to the vehicle, then continue to the Golden Calf Inscription site. Although fenced, we’ll be able to view it closely and hear its historical significance. • Enjoy a well-deserved lunch break before heading back to Tabuk or Sharma (about 2 hours’ drive). A restroom stop will be available halfway.

5.00Had a fantastic time climbing what is believed to be the true site of Mt. Sinai. There is lots of fascinating evidence to suggest this may indeed be the true site. One especially intriguing detail is how there is such a sharp, immediate change in the rock near the summit going from very light to suddenly very dark with a crisp boundary between. Had some older friends check out the archeological sites near the base while Abdulaziz lead me up the mountain. My only complaint was that, since I'm someone who climbs the mountains of Colorado nearly every weekend, he wasn't able to keep up with my pace, lol. But other than that he was an excellent guide and we had a lot of interesting conversations together. Would love to come back and more fully explore some of the surrounding regions and look deeper into the evidence of this as the probable site where some amazing biblical history took place!

5.00As an older reasonably fit couple Abdulaziz made sure we climbed to Elijah’s Cave at our own pace with rests. It took longer than usual (about 3hrs). He constantly checked in that we were doing OK. Which we were til about half way down the descent when my husband, 75yrs old, lost strength in his upper legs and couldn't keep his balance well. Our amazing guide made sure that we made the descent safely, however it was clear that had we been better equipped there would not have been a problem. To this point, even for experienced hikers, please ensure you are equipped with the following: a hiking backpack each, hiking shoes, trekking poles, enough water – incl. to spare, energy snacks, hat with brim/neck flap, and 50+ factor sunblock. We had some of these items but had not read the guidelines carefully enough given in the tour description. The dynamic conversations and introduction to Moses' Altar are great memories to treasure. We decided not to go to the Golden Calf Altar … but for sure next time, we're booking with Abdulaziz a #1 Guide at so many levels!
