Your host will pick you up from your Addis Ababa hotel and bring you home to enjoy an authentic, hands-on Ethiopian cooking class with his wife Tigist in their home kitchen. During your 1.5 hour class, Tigist will show you how to make a traditional Ethiopian dish like shiro or tibs as well as how to pour and cook the perfect injera, a traditional fermented bread people in Ethiopia use as an edible plate with other dishes served on top of it. You will also learn to roast coffee beans and enjoy a traditional coffee ceremony after your meal, as Ethiopia is the birth place of coffee!

This is a unique opportunity to learn from locals and experience authentic Ethiopia with its traditions and cuisine - so join these great hosts and leave with a full stomach and new memories to share with your loved ones at home!

Please note that on days Daniel is away, his partner Yadassa hosts along with Tigist, Daniel's wife at her home.

Daniel and his wife Tigist are from the Oromia region of Ethiopia but love to cook dishes from around the country, so prepare to be served pan-Ethiopian cuisine. Tigist learned to cook helping her mother around the house as a child and ran her own kitchen after marrying Daniel, who has a master's degree in Social Anthropology and is a tourism professional - he's led trips around Ethiopia for over a decade! Daniel speaks perfect English and enjoys discussing diverse subjects from food and history to politics. He loves meeting people from different cultural backgrounds and sharing his rich heritage with them. They are blessed with three handsome boys who may join you during your experience if it's on a weekend. Your cooking class will take place in Daniel and Tigist’s home kitchen. During your 1.5 - 2 hour class, Tigist will show you how to make a traditional Ethiopian dish as well as how to pour and cook the perfect injera. You might learn to make shiro (chickpea or broad bean stew) or tibs (stir-fried meat with vegetables and spices) in addition to injera. You will also learn to roast coffee beans. If you're interested in learning to make an additional dish, include it in advance when making your booking - please note that it will extend the cooking time. You will be picked up and dropped off after your experience. Please remember to include your hotel name and address when making your booking.

recently had a very disappointing experience with a domestic flight agent following an already exhausting journey. After traveling all day from the United States, I arrived feeling understandably tired and in need of basic assistance and courtesy. Unfortunately, the agent(Samrawit) I encountered was unexpectedly rude and dismissive. She even followed me and shout "security ". I didnt refuse to pay or it took long to take care of the payment because of a line . Her reasoning was she has to go home and she wants me to rush. Rather than offering support or even a simple acknowledgment of my situation, the agent spoke in a harsh tone and seemed impatient with my questions. As a traveler who had just completed a long international trip, I expected at least a minimal level of professionalism and empathy. Instead, the interaction added unnecessary stress to an already tiring day. Customer service plays a critical role in the travel experience, especially for passengers dealing with long-haul fatigue. A little patience and kindness would have made a significant difference. I hope the airline addresses this issue and reinforces the importance of respectful communication with passengers. Overall, this experience left a negative impression, and I would urge improvements in staff training to ensure future travelers are treated with the courtesy they deserve.

I joined this tour because I’m really into home cooking. Since I went by myself, it was a bit pricey for me, but honestly, it was totally worth it. Daniel and his family were super welcoming and friendly, and they took the time to answer all my questions. I had a great time! There was a bit of a mix-up when I booked, and I had some trouble reaching out through the app. So I’d recommend sending a message or giving a quick call after booking, just to make sure everything’s clear. 時間が遅くなってしまったおかげ（？）で、送迎時に思いがけず夜のアディスアベバ市内のドライブも楽しむことができました。土地勘のない場所なので、送迎もお願いでき良かったです。

What a fantastic time! Daniel not only facilitated a fabulous cooking class with his lovely family complete with recipes and hands-on training, but also opened his home and toured us around his lovely neighborhood up in the hills above Addis. He answered any and all of our questions about what it’s like to live in Ethiopia and was a fantastic resource for other opportunities for travel in the region. I would highly recommend this cooking class to anybody who wants an inside look into what it’s like to really live in Addis. Great value. The best thing we did while in Ethiopia.

Had a wonderful experience sharing an authentic Ethiopian meal with Daniel and his family. They showed such lovely hospitality, welcoming our jet-lagged selves into his home for practice making injera, conversation over a coffee ceremony, and delightful opportunities to learn about Ethiopian history and culture. In addition to the wonderful cooking experience given by Daniel and his lovely family, Daniel gave us an inside look into his neighborhood in the hills on the outskirts of Addis and answered any and all of our questions about Ethiopian culture. This experience made our time in Ethiopia more than just a stop over. We can not recommend this experience more if you are hoping to get an inside glimpse into everyday life in Addis.
If you love coffee, you definitely have to stop here.

The afternoon we spent going to the market and cooking with Daniel and Tigist was a definite highlight of our trip to Addis Ababa. They welcomed us into their home, taught us how to cook shiro and injera, and explained so much about their culture and ways of life in Addis. And, they have the three cutest, most well-behaved children. It was special to see a glimpse into what their family life is like--I don't think there is a better way to get an authentic local experience. And, I must mention that the food was amazing! It was my favorite Ethiopian meal by far--Daniel and Tigist are both amazing cooks. 10/10 I would recommend!

Our afternoon with Daniel and Tigist was one of the highlights of our trip. We loved learning to make shiro wat, and they were both really wonderful with our 9 and 2 year old kids. I highly recommend!

It was truly a lovely experience spending time with Daniel and Tigist in their kitchen learning how to cook Shiro Wat and injera. The food was amazing, the company even better and the coffee was magical. Thank you both for a wonderful time.
