  This time, I got to know Elista through a friend, and I became interested in her and decided to participate. The tour featured walking around the city in a harmony of new and old fashioned atmospheres, and the guides were kind and funny, making the tour a lot of fun without interruption throughout. At the beginning of the tour, we stopped by an old tofu shop, met a lovely owner, and had freshly fried tofu. It was so juicy, I couldn't help but think it was so delicious that it made me smile. We also asked the owner about the history of the shop and the guide about how to make tofu and what products can be made in the process, and it was a very interesting time. Even on the tour that followed, there were many shops that renovated old buildings to create a new modern atmosphere, and it was a lovely city where we both coexisted in a good direction. A small shrine or temple we stopped by? It was a very meaningful time to learn about the history of Yoyogi-Uehara itself and from the perspective of the people who live there. It really was fun and very quick going from start to finish, and it made us want to make an opportunity to go on a tour of another city.

  Just as I was looking for a holiday that would suit my friends and help me discover something new around Shinjuku, I found Elista’s tour. Yoyogi-Uehara was a place I visited many times, but I chose this place because I was curious about the phrase "a town that values the atmosphere of the old town". On the tour, I was excited throughout, as a retro lover, as I was led around by retro sento baths that suddenly appeared in residential areas and tofu shops that had long been in the area! The atsuage and doughnuts from the famous restaurants that filled my stomach were also very good. I always thought it was an area that was close to Shinjuku and was developing rapidly, but the fact that it was a mix of "old-fashioned" and "now" was a new discovery. It may be that this tour is unique in that it allows you to meet people who have lived here for a long time and experience the warmth of the people. I heard that many of the guides were inbound participants, and I really enjoyed being able to tell them places that even Japanese people didn't know. Thank you very much for teaching me a lot of tips. I would also like to join another tour of another city.

  I highly recommend this tour for any visitors wanting to go past the fancy tourist attractions and learn more about Japan's history and culture and their everyday local way of life! Our guide was full of knowledge and had perfect English so I was able to have fun AND learn a lot :) Great format filling up on snacks & drinks before doing most of the walking too.

  

• A Gastro-Historical Tour of "Local" Tokyo

  A great day to spend a half-day exploring the byways of Tokyo. Our guide Harumi - who was educated in Ireland and had amazing English- front-loaded the tour with food stops at a local pattiserie, tofu shop & an amazing almost hidden doughnut shop. With bellies sated we waded through streets that we would never find on our own without getting lost. After the food the highlight is the peculiar combination of shrine & temple and knowing that Tokyo bay once lapped on the shores of this area over 2,000 years ago certainly made you think how much Tokyo has changed. The tour itself is a leisurely pace with plenty of stops and a tonic if you need a break from the crowds.

  It was the first time I had come to Yogi Uehara, and I didn't expect so many hidden good places. It's very different from Tokyo's external impressions, quiet but fun, and hard to spot without a local guide. I went to the very popular doughnut shop and couldn't find it myself at all! The guide is also very chatty and recommended!

• The bustling generation tree has such a local side that is amazing!

  Previously, tourism in Tokyo always felt that the pace could not be so fast, this time trying to participate in the tour with local guides, but to see a more relaxed, different side, in the ancient high-end residential streets in the street to walk with a guide, I didn't think there are also the old stores and money soup, very surprised. The candy shop while in line, but also worth it! Tasty!
