On our Budapest Food Tour, we organised everything for you to eat like a local and try the most authentic Hungarian street food and traditional dishes. With organised entry at popular eateries, you’ll try the best bites in Budapest and meet the locals who make them.
A local guide will take you through District 7, a former Jewish neighbourhood turned nightlife hub. Here you’ll experience the bohemian side of the city as you try authentic street food like traditional soup and Lángos, a deep-fried flatbread. Then you’ll get to see the city’s more glamorous side as you head to fancy restaurants for a sit-down meal. You’ll try Hungarian classics like nokedli dumplings and Flódni, a Jewish-Hungarian pastry, all perfectly paired with drinks like Pálinka and sweet wine from Tokaji, Hungary’s famed wine region.

Most of Hungarian cuisine has deep roots in Jewish history, telling the resilient story of their people. To better understand the connection between Jewish culture and the food in Budapest, our tour will begin at a synagogue with a brief introduction from an expert guide.

We’ll continue learning about Jewish influence on Hungarian cuisine by strolling through District 7, a former Jewish neighbourhood and home to the biggest synagogue in Europe. Nowadays, it’s known for its vibrant nightlife where you’ll find iconic “ruin bars” and restaurants. They're a trend on social media, but they are still deeply connected to the district’s Jewish roots. You’ll explore the streets with your local guide, who will tell you about the history and how it relates to Hungarian cuisine before experiencing authentic street food. Leave your utensils at home; all you need is an open mind! You’ll be eating on the street like a local before heading to some sit-down spots.

5.00A great way to experience local foods and see the neighborhoods along the way! Péter is knowledgeable, articulate and an excellent guide! The walking pace was brisk between stops (great for preparing to eat again!) And the time eating was relaxed and pleasurable. As a personal bonus, Péter helped me with my Hungarian!

5.00Thank you, Kitti! What a fun afternoon on your food tour! Stops were all very different, portions were generous and packed full of flavors. Kitti was engaging and knowledgeable, prepared to accommodate any food sensitivities and made sure everyone was looked after. Even though the stops were few, they were all informative! Tip: skip breakfast if you’re doing an early afternoon tour.

5.00This was a great introduction to Hungarian food and drink and a great way to explore the 6th and 7th districts where lots of places to dine are located as well as the ruin bars. Kelly was a great host and was very informative and sent us a follow up with what we had to eat and drink along with other dining recommendations for the remainder of our stay.
