It was really nice and we loved the San Juan village. Didn’t find San Pedro and San Tiago much and would have loved to spend more time at San Juan instead. Rosa our tour guide was amazing and I highly recommend this tour.

The tour began with a typical breakfast in Panajachel. Unfortunately on the same tour are people who come from Antigua which makes us have to wait for them and delay the start of the tour The walk through the lake is quite beautiful giving various perspectives of the volcanoes. As for the Maya villages, they are nothing special, with very modern architecture. The time in each of the 3 settlements was quite limited as the group that followed to Antigua had to return quite early

I loved the stunning views of Lake Atitlan. The boat ride was a wonderful experience, ideal for enjoying the scenery and serenity of the lake. We visited a cooperative of women who make beautiful Mayan textiles and a cooperative of young people who work with melipona bees. We also made a stop in San Pedro La Laguna and an interesting walking tour in Santiago Atitlan. Something I loved was our guide: he had a deep knowledge about the history and culture of the villages we visited, as well as being a local guide, originally from one of these villages, which made the experience even more authentic. Lunch was delicious because of its position was not included and the group we shared the tour with was very nice. Overall, it was an experience that exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend it. It is very worth taking this tour on Lake Atitlan!

When traveling to the Lake Atitlan area, I think it’s important to do one of these cultural tours to see the various villages around the lake. However, this one was okay. Some pros and cons: Pros: —great chance to get a glimpse of life in the villages. Each had its own charm and nuance, and if we didn’t have a guide booked, we would not have made it out there to see them —loved that our guide was a native of Santiago. Her narration was authentic and personal. —while I normally hate those visits to shops that we are forced to go on during some of these tours. But the ones on this tour were great - small glimpses into the economy of these villages. Saw honey, chocolate, weaving, coffee, and we didn’t feel forced into buying anything, only if we truly wanted to purchase gifts or such. Cons: —part of our tour included breakfast - we went to a restaurant where we got eggs, beans, and plantains for our meal. Could have done without this, and would have preferred to not have this inflate the price of the tour —the boat we took was very, for lack of a better term, janky. I mean - the worst boat on the dock. We kind of jokingly wondered if it would make it across the lake. Well, in the middle, the motor actually did give out! Luckily the boat operator managed to get it up and running again. —the second location we visited, San Pedro, was so cute but there was no plan. We were just on our own for about 30 min. Wish there was something more organized as part of the tour —in Santiago, lunch was on our own, which I liked. Then for an additional cost, we could take tuk tuks to a viewpoint and to a Mayan religious ceremony. The viewpoint was great. The Mayan piece felt very commercialized. Not sure I would have spent for that in retrospect. Overall- I’m glad we did the tour and had the guide’s narration, but there was lots of downtime and some unnecessary add ons. Just be prepared for that.

It was an incredible experience visiting Lake Atitlán. We crossed by boat to visit several magical towns, and each one was unique and special. San Juan La Laguna surprised us with its art, culture and warmth. We also visited San Pedro La Laguna and Santiago Atitlán, each with its own charm. We were a group of 8 friends, and the adventure was simply great. Without a doubt, a highly recommended experience.
