Mount Bromo is very special with the spectacular sunrise panorama. Landscape of Mount Bromo, Mount Batok, and Mount Semeru that stand side by side at Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. Mount Ijen is about 200km further east and involves a night hike up. Once you make it into the volcano, you will see the blue flames (only visible before sunrise) and see the most acidic lake in the world. You will meet the miners, they are the strong local villagers who work at night to collect sulfur using very low safety gear standard. They risk themselves carrying 60-80 kilograms of sulfur down the mountain twice a day and the income they get depends on how many kilograms of sulfur they can bring down. After the sunrise, Ijen Crater turns into a fantastic volcano that you will always remember. The acidic turquoise lake, the truly exotic volcanic rugged cliffs, the smoke of sulfur and the ambitious miners, all these combinations may make you more grateful for your life.

Mount Bromo and Cemoro Lawang can be pretty chilly before sunrise since they’re 2,329 meters (7,641 ft) above sea level,the elevation at the viewpoint is a whopping 2,770 meters (9,088 ft). Temperatures can drop below 7 Celsius (45 F), and that doesn’t even factor in wind chill. It can get incredibly windy on the mountain peaks, and dry season is cooler than rainy season. However, you’ll only be chilly before sunrise. After that it warms up pretty quick, and the sun at this elevation is plenty strong.

Wulan Kapitu (January 17th-18th, 2026), The Silence day (March 19th-20th, 2026), Ecosystem restoration (April 6th -12th) and Kasada (May 31st - June 2nd at 10:00am, 2026). At that time Mount Bromo closed for religious purposes.
Your guide at Bromo and Ijen is a different person
When you decide to see the blue fire, descend 800 meters with steep conditions up to a 45 degree incline, the path to the bottom of the crater will be rocky and narrow.
Mount Ijen usually during the wet season, the volcanic activity near the crack of volcano is rising. If this activity occurs then authorities will close the trail going to the Blue Flame but travellers still have opportunity to enjoy the landscape from Ijen's rim of crater, or if the volcanic activities turn the toxicity of gas into a level of danger, then the authorities will close the entire site for safety reasons. Visiting Mount Ijen/Blue flame means you need to be ready for nature’s unpredictability. There is no guarantee that you will go down the crater/blue fire on the day of your trip, nature is unpredictable and if due to massive sulphur clouds it is too dangerous on that day to go down, you have to respect it for your own safety.
Ijen crater: Distance: 6 kilometers (3.7 mi) return, tour duration 7 hours return, The first 2km is the most challenging, as the road climbs steadily at a 25-35° incline. The next 1 km is flat.

Mount Bromo
After sunrise around 06:00am, back to jeep parking area and you will be heading to mount Bromo around 30 min,The Jeep will park near luhur poten temple. Walk 30 minutes one way to the top of mount bromo, the last part is a stairs, climb up 245 stair to reach the top of mount bromo, stay careful with your steps. from the crater rim, Hear the roar of the earth while balancing on the edge of an active volcano crater. Approximately 07.00am the 4WD will bring you back to the hotel for have breakfast and shower.

Depart at 12:00am, our driver and guide will pick you up then 1 hour drive to paltuding, the entrance of Mount Ijen. In total, the hike to the Ijen peak takes about 1.5 hours depending on your pace, if you walk quickly you could do it in 1 hour, and even slow hikers won’t take more than 2 hours to reach Ijen peak. If you decide to go down the path is crowded, it’s steep and rocky, this part of the hike takes about 30 minutes in each direction. When you arrived at the bottom of ijen crater, you will see amazing blue flames. At 05:00am you will climb back to the top of mount ijen, enjoy scenery. At 06:00am back to Paltuding around 1 hour walking then meet our driver, you'll be taken back to the hotel for have a breakfast and shower

At 10:00am checking out, drive to ketapang ferry port, where you'll catch a ferry over to Gilimanuk ferry port, by private car transfer out to your hotel in Bali or return to Surabaya (optional). Here, your three-day tour of the Indonesian volcanoes will come to an end.

5.00I was travelling under Viator with a 3-day tour from Surabaya to Bali. Due to the time is in the low season, I was the solo traveler in the group. The trip was truly amazing, and I am very satisfied with the services provided by Viator. I was lucky to have days in good weather. The Semu Waterfalls, the sunrise over Mt. Bromo and Mt. Ijen all left me with lifetime great impression. The local guides (Lien, Harry and Soogy) and the driver (Bagus) took a good care of me and helped me on every step of the travel itinerary. 5.00So first of all: It was a smooth, you can say perfect, organization from start to finish. Communication with Ary went great from request to arrival at the destination over the three days. No long response times, no unanswered question, really thumbs up. You rarely do! To the tour: My wife and I were two (we wanted to be). The price was very fair, we could choose between three accommodation packages from guesthouse to higher quality accommodation. We chose the middle class and did well with it. Our driver Tono picked us up in the morning at 5 in our accommodation on time and accompanied us over three days. Not perfect English (we were told before), but good-hearted and explained a lot about country and people. We told him to pick lunch and dinner, very authentic! I think your food should be appropriate with numbers to get to these places. Diwan accompanied us at the waterfalls and took great pictures and videos, Harry had to keep us happy at Bromo because we had no visibility (weather is just not predictable), and voice and singing talent Ivan accompanied us superbly at Mount Ijen (no Blue fire) and photographed us. We were accompanied on the ferry ride to Bali and handed over to the driver for our hotel. Thumbs up, full recommendation!

5.00The Bromo Ijen Sukamade Tour was the highlight of our three-week trip to Indonesia. The tour was well organized from start to finish, communication with Ary possible and uncomplicated at all times. We were very nicely received in Surabaya. Our driver, Sigit, is not only a very good driver, but also told us a lot about his country or stopped at fruit stands at our request and showed us the exotic , delicious fruits and recommended. In Sukamade he was able to explain a lot about the turtle breeding station and turtles. We felt very comfortable with him. All local guides in Bromo, Ijen and Sukamade were also nice and well chosen. The sunrise on the Bromo overlooking active volcanoes is beautiful, the Ijen a bit strenuous running up in the middle of the night, but the blue flames and the great light of sunrise are worth the walk and watching the giant sea turtles laying eggs on the beach of Sukamade and releasing baby turtles into the sea the next morning is probably a once in a lifetime experience. In Sukamade or at the entrance of the national park (Turtle Lodge) we would have liked to stay even longer.;)

5.00In summary, I have to say that the trip was a success all around. He was really top both organizationally and in terms of guide and driver. Our guide Heri and driver Sunari were really great. We were warmly welcomed as agreed on time picked up at our hotel. Also the transfer to Bali to the hotel worked well. Only reaching the ferry was a bit hectic because we were a bit late. But that was really the only point that was not quite optimal. The atmosphere was always very good and we never felt uncomfortable. Heri took really great care of us, always took a lot of photos and knew really good photo spots. At the Bromo he led us to a super viewpoint that was not as crowded as all the others. It also went really well on the Ijen because we were one of the first to make it into the crater to the blue fire thanks to Herri. Overall, Heri was very well informed and could really give us a lot of information about the individual spots, but also about Java and Indonesia in general. Our driver Sunari was also always friendly and accommodating and took us safely from A to B. Our accommodation at Bromo (Lava View Point) was a bit rustic but clean and fine for one night. On the Ijen, the accommodation (Teras) with a wonderful view over the rice fields was all the more beautiful for it. How can the tour really only recommend to everyone.

5.00One of the best experiences of life time. Despite both the places (Mt Bromo & Mt Ijen) being very crowded, our guide were smart to make us start early, skip the line by being early. Trust me 10 min here and there and you would be exhausted for another hour in line. But again, thanks to our guide - Iwen @Mt Ijen & Hari @Mt Bromo, we had smooth time. Bonus : they even helped alot with photography. I had insta360, gopro and s23 ultra. They were kind enough toh help shoot with all the devices.

5.00We spent three great days visiting Mount Bromo the Ijen Crater and the turtles of Sukamade The Driver was excellent. He took care of us in Surabaya and stayed with us all the way to Bali. Everything is well organized, you are never alone Guides are great, the hotels were decent and the Driver stopped us eating wherever we wanted or he found us nice little restaurants. Very good organization, I recommend do not hesitate.

5.00The tour has been amazing!!!! One of the best experiences in our lifes!! All the guides and the drivers have been so kind. We have been in Madakaripura waterfall, in Bromo, Ijen and relesaing the baby tourtles in Sukamade. I would repeat everithing. It has been amazing.
