Your guide will collect you in a Mercedes from your Nelson accommodation around 8am and will proceed to orientate you to this stunning region. Nelson is surrounded by National parks and the sea and is renowned for its high sunshine hours and the drive to meet your water taxi passes through orchards and market gardens responsible for much of the fresh fruit and vegetables found in New Zealand. Arriving at Kaiteriteri which is one of the best beaches in NZ, walking sticks and back packs are offered if required before boarding the water taxi at 9.15am for a scenic cruise over calm turquoise waters past islands with seals and ringing with birdsong, then stunning coastline to be delivered right into the heart of the park at around 10.30am. Your guide has been specially selected for their maturity, experience and knowledge of Abel Tasman National Park and will lead you over well formed tracks in lush forest explaining the medicinal and eatable plants and their unique features. They will discuss the importance of the region to Maori, Dutch and European history as well as the early settlers. Refreshments will be supplied at beautiful vantage points along the way and after 2.5 hours the guide will produce a delicious gourmet lunch to be enjoyed on the golden sands of Torrent Beach. The final afternoon walk of 2 hours takes you around the Torrent Bay estuary to Anchorage to be collected by your water taxi for the return cruise to Kaiteriteri and the drive back to your accommodation by 5pm.

If you’re lucky enough to have Al for your guide, you’re in for a great adventure! He tailored the trip according to the capabilities of the hikers, but it was his knowledge and connection to the land and Māori culture that made the experience truly special.

What an amazing experience! Lucy was the best guide we had in our 3 week adventure journey. Lucy was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We took our shoes off and walked across the estuary. After a quick foot wash, we were hiking up to look at stunning views. Lucy had everything we needed in her backpack.

My walking tour with Al was fantastic! It was great not having to worry about navigating Abel Tasman, getting to the correct ferries on time, etc. Al was so knowledgeable and shared really interesting details about the park, wildlife, and local culture. The views were stunning, this tour is a must-do for anyone traveling through the area!

It was such a fantastic and most beautiful day in Abel. Alan is the most funny and informative guide I ever had! I had a wonderful time hiking and taking the cruise with this small group day trip from Nelson. Highly recommend if you are a Solo traveller like me. And got introduced to Frooze Balls! :) Greatest snack i had. Thanks for that Alan and the Team of Wine, Art and Wilderness

One of the best guided tours experiences I have ever had, and I had many! Al was a terrific guide, a great personality and someone who is capable of conveying the spirit of the place. We have had an amazing walk along the Abel Tasman trail supported by Al‘s incredible knowledge if the area. Everything including lunch was just perfect, the very convenient pickup from the hotel al the way down to the great company of the other 4 guests. I will remember this day to the end of my life! Thank you a thousand times for this amazing experience Al, you are the man!

Fantastic trip to Abel Tasman. Picked up from our hotel in Nelson and driven to Kaiteriteri where we boarded the water taxi. Our guide, Lucy, was superb and very knowledgeable and pointed out so many things we wouldn't have noticed had we done the hike by ourselves. Snacks en-route and a lovely lunch was provided. Learnt to walk barefoot like a Kiwi! Thank you Lucy for making it such a memorable day.

What a fantastic day with Jeremy. Abel Tasman speaks for itself and is breathtaking. Rather than trying to drive ourselves, book the ferries and pack our lunch, we paid for a full service tour. Well worth the money. Lunch was great the drives from Nelson and back were relaxing but Jeremy was the star. His true love of the area and nature turned our 6 mile hike into a class when we learned about the history of Able Tasman and the flora along the trail. First class five star operations.

Wow! This was one of the best all-day tours we’ve ever done, and we travel extensively. Our tour was slightly different than what’s described here—there was a kayak component (2 hours or so, saw seals). The kayak tour was just the right length, and all the gear & instruction was included. After the kayak, we took a hike through the national park—absolutely beautiful walk. A bit of a climb at the beginning—maybe 15 min, but after that it was all flat and in the shade. The real difference was the tour guide—we had Alan, and couldn’t be happier with him. He made the trip unforgettable. Alan: answered all of our questions, and admitted the one or two he didn’t have an answer for; he carried our water and our extra clothing in a gigantic backpack; he had lunch for us ready to go after we got off the boat; he was funny and engaging; really had a deep understanding of the flora and fauna of the area, pointed out different plants, birds, trees and gave us the background on each. We highly recommend this tour! Worth every penny.
