Abel Tasman Water and Walk is a small group tour for visitors who prefer faster access into the heart of this popular National Park so that they can spend more time exploring the many features with an expert interpretive guide who will highlight the less obvious features of Maori history, early settler activity and the endless stories that abound here, especially from the rich variety of vegetation, birds and aquatic life.

Your guide will collect you in a Mercedes from your Nelson accommodation around 8am and will proceed to orientate you to this stunning region. Nelson is surrounded by National parks and the sea and is renowned for its high sunshine hours and the drive to meet your water taxi passes through orchards and market gardens responsible for much of the fresh fruit and vegetables found in New Zealand. Arriving at Kaiteriteri which is one of the best beaches in NZ, walking sticks and back packs are offered if required before boarding the water taxi at 9.15am for a scenic cruise over calm turquoise waters past islands with seals and ringing with birdsong, then stunning coastline to be delivered right into the heart of the park at around 10.30am. Your guide has been specially selected for their maturity, experience and knowledge of Abel Tasman National Park and will lead you over well formed tracks in lush forest explaining the medicinal and eatable plants and their unique features. They will discuss the importance of the region to Maori, Dutch and European history as well as the early settlers. Refreshments will be supplied at beautiful vantage points along the way and after 2.5 hours the guide will produce a delicious gourmet lunch to be enjoyed on the golden sands of Torrent Beach. The final afternoon walk of 2 hours takes you around the Torrent Bay estuary to Anchorage to be collected by your water taxi for the return cruise to Kaiteriteri and the drive back to your accommodation by 5pm.

5.00Our trip was perfect in terms of its duration, variety and fun. Blair is an impeccable host, picked us up from our B&B in a very comfortable vehicle and brought our surroundings to life both on the water and on the hikes on the coves. His depth of knowledge of flora and fauna is superb and he speaks with great affection for nature. Food and wine offering was excellent especially the Albarińo. We also go some excellent pointers on how to spend our second day in Abel Tasman which was really great. Like having a great day out with a good friend who knows his stuff.

5.00Our guide with 2 couples was fantastic. On our hike she pointed out the local floral and fauna and we totally experienced the New Zealand wilderness.

5.00We had a great time with Angelica (hope I have the right spelling!) as our tour guide. Small group - just us two and and another person - which allowed for a truly customized experience. From being picked up at our hotel promptly to being dropped off promptly at the time stated on the tour, and everything in between was as advertised. Boat ride was great but as was the hike. Angelica is extremely knowledgeable - her insight into various trees, plants, and birds - all the things we know very little about - was very helpful and made the hike more than just a hike! We also stopped at various places - for views, photographs, and food/water. Never felt rushed, but it was also a full day. Boat ride is great - you are with other people from various tours - but Angelica was always there to take care of us. I know some folks mention they can do this one their own without a guide...but being picked up, driven to the park, and guided definitely made us feel lot more comfortable.

5.00We enjoyed a great day in Abel Tasman with our guide Alan who was a fantastic host for the day. From early am pick up at our hotel, to a great lunch, excellent conversation / local knowledge, to a beautiful boat ride / hike, Alan made sure that everything was ‘just right’ for us. Abel Tasman is beautiful and well worth at least a full day visit.

5.00Al was the best guide ever! Super informative, gracious, and fun! He was prompt with pick up and drop off and full of fun facts. He answered our many questions about the area, the culture, and the wildlife while also providing a superb lunch and the greatest snacks! Would highly recommend this tour, and Alan, to anyone and everyone!

5.00Such a wonderful atmosphere — warm, inviting, and not overly crowded, which made the visit even more enjoyable. The environment is incredibly pristine, with easy access to nature that adds so much to the overall experience. The people here are incredibly friendly and make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. A fantastic experience that I would highly recommend to anyone.
A must if you are in Nelson!

5.00We had a fabulous day trip starting at 7:40 when we were picked up close to our accommodation and returning at 7pm. Blair was an excellent guide, personable, engaging and very knowledgeable. The car journey was followed by a boat trip which went along the beautiful coastline of the Abel Tasman National Park. When we disembarked onto a beautiful beach we started our walk. As it was low tide we took off our boots and crossed a bay, traversing shallow river beds. We were glad we’d taken rock shoes as there were many cockle shells! The main part of the walk was through bush on well maintained undulating paths. Blair pointed out lots of flora which we would have missed! A delicious lunch was provided as well as snacks and water throughout the day. Late afternoon we were picked up from a different bay and sailed back to the start. We were returned to our accommodation at the end of a magnificent trip.

4.00It was a well organised trip. Door to door service. The guide was very friendly, knowledgeable and approachable. Everything was supplied in the way of water and lunch and it was a good standard. Would recommend this trip

5.00My wife and the two friends we are traveling with had an amazing time on this great small group tour, made even moreso by Al, the best tour guide one could possibly have. He is a great guy and listener, with an insightful and entertaining personality. Al asked each of us what we wanted from the tour experience and tailored our day to both meet and surpass our expectations. He took is on a hiking trail matching our hiking skill level and desired difficulty level while giving us very fun and informative information about the history of the area and the park and interesting information about the plant and animal life we encountered. He also guided us across a wash area when the tide receded. He provided great snack breaks and lunch food as well: snacks of great cookies and fruit protein balls, and a lunch with salad, fresh fruit and a sandwich. This is a beautiful place to hike, plus a beautiful boat ride to and from the hike start and completion area. Wine, Art & Wilderness is a great tour operator, as they were very clear communicators about what to bring and how best to prepare for our hiking day. And very quick responders to our questions. We all felt after our tour, that a small group tour greatly enhanced our experience as did Al!
