Akagera National Park, located in eastern Rwanda along the Tanzanian border, is a 1,120 km² savannah and wetland ecosystem known as the country’s only Big Five destination and home to over 500 bird species. A full-day game drive of 6–8 hours allows tourists to explore its diverse landscapes from southern wetlands to wooded savannahs and the open northern plains—while spotting lions, elephants, buffalos, rhinos, and leopards, along with giraffes, zebras, hippos, crocodiles, and a wide variety of antelopes and birds, including the rare shoebill. Visitors typically start early in the morning for the best predator sightings, enjoy scenic picnic stops, capture excellent wildlife photography, and learn from guides about the park’s conservation efforts and the reintroduction of key species before exiting in the late afternoon or evening

Akagera National Park in eastern Rwanda is a 1,120 km² blend of savannah, woodland, rolling hills, and wetlands. After being a home of 10 lakes, visitors can enjoy water-based activities, most notably the popular boat safari on Lake Ihema, where they get close views of hippos, crocodiles, waterbirds, and beautiful lake scenery. The park also offers night game drives guided by rangers, giving tourists the chance to encounter nocturnal wildlife such as hyenas, bushbabies, servals, civets, and occasionally leopards, while experiencing the unique atmosphere of the savannah after dark. 5.00Akagera National Park exceeded my expectations and offered an unforgettable safari experience. The park is beautifully maintained, with diverse landscapes ranging from savannah to lakes, making the scenery just as impressive as the wildlife. We were lucky to see a wide variety of animals, including elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, and even lions. The game drives were well organized, and the guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about conservation, which made the experience even more engaging.
