National Museum of Ethiopia
You will start your city tour of Addis Ababa with the National Museum of Ethiopia. This is one of the best museums in quality and diversity of the exhibits. Archeological exhibits include the 3.5 million-year-old fossil of Lucy (or Dinkinesh – ‘thou art wonderful’- in the native language), a hominoid woman of the specious of Australopithecus Afarensis. The discovery of Lucy’s fossil in 1974 forced a complete rethink of human genealogy, providing that our ancestors were walking 2.5 million years earlier than had been supposed. The National Museum also contains many wonderful artifacts dating back to pre-Axumite civilization. Please note that the National Museum Will be closed on Monday.
Yekatit 12 Martyrs Square
Yekatit 12 Martyrs Square Monument is located near the Addis Ababa University and the Lion Zoo. This place has a significant historical background.

5.00My husband and I had a stopover in Addis Ababa for a little over 24 hours. We landed, checked in to our hotel, and were picked up the next morning by Luel and Nebeyou for our tour. They even let us keep our luggage in the van for the day and dropped us off at the airport for our flight home. Luel was a wonderful guide. He speaks excellent English and is easy to communicate with. He’s intelligent and gave thoughtful answers to my many questions about the Ethiopian customs and culture. He obviously cares a great deal about his country and its people and seemed very happy to share his enthusiasm and knowledge with us. A highlight of the day was having lunch with him at the oldest restaurant in Addis and having an authentic Ethiopian meal including honey wine (and meeting the women who make the wine)! Nebeyou was an excellent driver, and we felt very safe the whole day. Don’t hesitate to book this tour. It really opened our eyes to the beauty and also the struggles of Ethiopians. Luel also guides multi day tours outside the city; we would feel comfortable booking these with him as well.

5.00Tour guide Luel was extremely knowledgeable (he also reads extensively so knows a lot about world politics and can describe Ethiopian history and current events in context). He also has a good sense of timing: he keeps things moving and does not draw out unnecessary details. Our highlight was the Market, but the University tour was very good as well. The day went fast!
