Eyre Square, in the heart of Galway City, is officially known as the John F. Kennedy Memorial Park. The square has a rich history dating back to medieval times when markets took place on the green in front of the town gates. A memorial of the US President Kennedy, who was made a Freeman of the city, marks the spot where he made a speech to approximately 100,000 Galway people in 1963, on his last trip before his assassination.
Lynch's Castle
Lynch’s Castle, it is a striking example of a medieval fortified house. The castle is four storeys high with embellished carved windows, gargoyles and ornamental mouldings and cornices. Built by the powerful Lynch family as a protection from raids, parts of the limestone building may date back to the 14th century but the bulk of it was built in the 16th century. The Lynches, of Anglo-Norman descent, were one of the powerful 14 tribes who ruled Galway.

5.00My wife and I were so fortunate and blessed to have Arthur as our private guide in Galway. He is a true expert as he was born and raised in this town and he loves it, and you can tell. We learned more from him, told to us with wonderful stories you will most likely not get from anyone else. We have both used guides all over this planet, and I don’t think any have been as sincere, professional, and wise as Arthur. We will return to Galway, and much of that is because of him, and when we do, we will be making contact with him. I can tell you if anyone every asks us, we would, without a doubt recommend Arthur to be your guide to this beautiful city, his home, Galway.

5.00Arthur was the best. He gave us a fantastic tour that had us all engaged the whole time. It was around 3 hours and Arthur tailored the tour towards what we had later in the day. He is very knowledgeable and passionate and would definitely recommend doing this tour.

5.00We had an excellent experience with our guide Arthur in Galway! Galway has a rich history and a walking tour is the perfect way to appreciate this wonderful community. Arthur is a life long resident and his passion about the history of Galway made for a very memorable afternoon. Arthur pointed out and explained signs of history hiding in plain sight as we toured the Latin Quarter, Eyre Square, the Spanish Arch, and Galway Cathedral. Arthur was also accommodating about the weather and offered to move our tour to alter in the day to avoid inclement weather. His suggestion to tour Connemara the following day was spot on and made for another unforgettable day. 10/10 experience!
