James Town Lighthouse
One of the most historic places to be in Accra is James Town. A visit to James Town unveils the rich history of the indigenous of Accra and the tight knit spirit with which families and neighbors coexisted. The main occupation here is fishing and due to the proximity to the sea, James town played a key role in the slave trade which demanded construction of James Town Lighthouse to serve us a navigation aid for incoming slave ships. The 28-metre (92 ft) structure was originally built in the 1930s, replacing an earlier lighthouse that had been built in 1871. It consists of a stone tower with lantern and gallery, attached to a keeper's house.. It’s not a tourist attraction in the usual sense – no gift shops or ticket offices here. There’s a good panoramic view from the top of the spiral staircase of the light house.
Ussher Fort and Museum
James Town being a coastal town and slave trade town was inundated with forts and castles so our next stop is Fort Ussher. The most prominent Fort in James Town which was built by the Dutch in 1649 as Fort Crêvecoeur Major project was carried out by Ghana Government, EU and UNESCO to restore this historical edifice into a museum in 2007. A must place to visit to learn abdominal historical slave trade in Accra.

I booked this 2 day tour as a solo traveller as I wanted to see and experience Ghanaian history. The first day we went to cape coast and it was definitely an unforgettable experience but the roads were seriously bumpy ( they working on it) if you have back problems it may be risky. My driver was okay, not much chat but it was 7hrs driving and I slept most of it. Day 2 was fantastic, my driver PK went above and beyond for me. He took pictures of me and made sure I was okay at all times. Overall it was a great experience and I’m happy I went. I felt safe throughout and learnt so much it was emotionally draining at time. Pk is a real asset to your business. He was kind, knowledgeable and made the experience memorable.

The tour manager, Kofi was very responsive to our needs. He helped us create a tour that fits our family’s interests. It was a group of 14. Our tour guide Prince was extremely professional. He is knowledgeable about the tours. He made sure that everyone was safe and satisfied with the tours. We spent 4 days in Ghana and Prince took care of us every day. He made sure we visited every location on our bucket list. He is a very kind person. He is easy to speak with. He made the long drive to Cape Coast enjoyable. All we had to do was share our ideas with him and he made it happened. My family and I were so grateful for Ghana City Tours especially for Prince. When you are coming to Ghana, just book Ghana City Tour and you will not be disappointed. You will experience Ghana even better than you imagine. Thank you Prince and the team.

We used Ghana City Tours to tour Accra. They were very insightful and helpful and we saw a lot more than we had initially agreed on. Our guide was very knowledgeable about Accra's history and political as well as socio economic status. We had a great time seeing the city and will definitely use them again to see the coastal areas on our next visit. 5 stars!

I had a fantastic time with my tour guide Isaac! He's very knowledgeable about Ghana and took me to all the sites I wanted to see. We visited Cape Coast Castle, Elimina Castle, the Ancestral Slave walk and the Last Bath, Boti Waterfalls and Umbrella Rock, Independence Square, and Makola Market. I had such a great time and experience that I'm ready to come back and have Isaac show me everything else that Ghana has to offer! Thanks so much for making my experience a life-changing one!!

Me and my wife visited Accra, Ghana in November and had the best time of our lives. Our first tour was to Cape Coast which was an approximately 3hr ride from our apartment. Chris, our tour guide was outstanding, very knowledgeable of the places visited, and made our time there worth it. We are definitely going to make another visit, more site seeing, and experience more of the cultural celebrations.

Visited Accra for a few days with the Family, (hubby and 2 kids under 4) We had the chance to do the Ghana city tours and glad we did. We were driven around the sights in comfort by our very knowledgeable guide, huge thanks to Kay. A particular highlight was the Aburi gardens, so much history in all the plant/tree life and a very interactive tour. The journey up there was amazing, as it was quite a way above sea level we were treated to a breathtaking view on the city below. The various beach locations including Tema an Labadi were also a treat, especially for the kids. The Kwame Nkrumah Museum and near by arts centre were great as if offered an array of ornaments, paintings and clothing, reasonably priced (if you know how to haggle!) The drumming session with the local drummers was a highlight for my son. I would definitely recommend.

Although, I visited Accra in a business trip and the time was so tight. The guys prepared a tour for me within 4 hours that made me know a lot about Ghana history and its landmarks. The tour leader Isaac has extensive information about the country. I enjoyed a lot. Thank you
