On this adventurous, small-group, glacier hike from Skaftafell - Vatnajökull National Park, you'll explore the majestic glacial landscape of one of Vatnajökull outlet glaciers. You will be provided with crampons and ice axes, and an experienced, certified glacier guide will teach you how to use the equipment before you step on to the ice. During your 4-hour tour, you will hike through a wonderland of ice sculptures and deep crevasses, traversing zones of different glacial formations. The tour is of moderate difficulty, and to ensure a personal experience, groups are limited to 8 participants. Choose from the following departure times when booking: 9am, 9:30am, 1pm, and 1:30pm.

Skaftafell National Park
The tour departs from our Skaftafell Base Camp, right on the Skaftafell campsite next to the visitor center. 20 minutes prior to departure, you will meet your experienced glacier guide, who will gear the group up with crampons, ice axes and harnesses. When everyone is ready, you will take our glacier bus up to the glacier for an amazing adventure.
We head to the glacier on our Glacier Bus. After a few minute's drive from our Skaftafell Base Camp, there is a short hike up to the roots of the glacier. After a short introduction on how to use the glacier gear, we step onto the glacier and into a frozen wonderland. The guide will lead the group through deep crevasses and majestic ice ridges. With about 2 hours on the glacier, we have plenty of time to take pictures and make memories. After the wonderful adventure, we head back to our Skaftafell Base Camp.

5.00Brook Woodman took us on an absolutely incredible tour that was completely tailored to just the two of us, making the experience feel truly special. He taught us how to ice climb and guided us up the glacier, sharing fascinating knowledge about the landscape, glaciers, and everything around us along the way. Brook was genuinely lovely, extremely helpful, and made us feel confident and safe the whole time. To top it off, he even brought his drone and captured some amazing footage, which made an already unforgettable adventure even more epic. Could not recommend more, definitely the highlight of our trip, do not miss out on this adventure. Thank you Brook, you legend! Wawawiwa

5.00This is long overdue but during our trip we had a wonderful experience thanks to our knowledgeable guide Óskar Magnús Hardarsson. We would highly recommend this tour as this would be impossible without a certified guide.

5.00A lot of fun to do! First a walk there, about 1.5 hours on the glacier itself. There were four of us and guide Paz; she showed and told a lot. Highly recommended!!

5.00We had an amazing time on the Glacier hike and ice cave tour with Icelandic Mountain Guides. The tour was perfectly designed to accommodate anyone in moderately good physical shape. We were on the ice for about 3 hours which is longer than I expected. Some of that time was spent waiting for other tour groups to pass but it was a welcomed rest and the glacier didn’t feel crowded at all. Our tour guide, August, really made the experience for us. You could tell he LOVES what he does, he was so funny and made us feel super safe the entire time. 10/10 time no notes!

5.00It was a fantastic experience. I wouldn't have missed it for the world. A wonderful icing on the cake at the end of our study trip. Especially under the guidance of August Atlason: humor, safety, a wealth of knowledge, and good English speaking.

It was truly awesome to experience this Icelandic scenery on our last day, the sun made it even more special. Thanks Agúst for putting up with us, come to Holland anytime you want!

5.00This was such a cool experience to do with my fellow contiki travellers! Our guides were super friendly and very knowledgeable. I think the price is very reasonable considering Iceland prices. I wish we could have hiked for longer but we only had the short hike opportunity with a busy itinerary. Would 100% do this again.

5.00Going regularly with them in the context of a student tour. All guides are skillful, friendly and can adapt to local conditions easily. They operate safely, know their surroundings and the workings of a glacier, and are great company to be around. For a safe adventure use them!
