On this adventurous, small-group, glacier hike from Skaftafell - Vatnajökull National Park, you'll explore the majestic glacial landscape of one of Vatnajökull outlet glaciers. You will be provided with crampons and ice axes, and an experienced, certified glacier guide will teach you how to use the equipment before you step on to the ice. During your 4-hour tour, you will hike through a wonderland of ice sculptures and deep crevasses, traversing zones of different glacial formations. The tour is of moderate difficulty, and to ensure a personal experience, groups are limited to 8 participants. Choose from the following departure times when booking: 9am, 9:30am, 1pm, and 1:30pm.

Skaftafell National Park
The tour departs from our Skaftafell Base Camp, right on the Skaftafell campsite next to the visitor center. 20 minutes prior to departure, you will meet your experienced glacier guide, who will gear the group up with crampons, ice axes and harnesses. When everyone is ready, you will take our glacier bus up to the glacier for an amazing adventure.
We head to the glacier on our Glacier Bus. After a few minute's drive from our Skaftafell Base Camp, there is a short hike up to the roots of the glacier. After a short introduction on how to use the glacier gear, we step onto the glacier and into a frozen wonderland. The guide will lead the group through deep crevasses and majestic ice ridges. With about 2 hours on the glacier, we have plenty of time to take pictures and make memories. After the wonderful adventure, we head back to our Skaftafell Base Camp.

The BEST part of our Iceland trip

5.00My husband and I took our first trip to Iceland and wanted to try a glacier hike (we've never done one before). After looking at a few options, we settled on this one based on positive reviews and the pictures of the area - we are SO happy we did. We had an amazing trip overall, but this was by far the highlight. Our guide was extremely knowledgable, told us about the area, hit all the safety points, and continually checked in with our group's comfort. She also made it incredibly fun and took us far along glacier (at least, far for someone who didn't know what to expect). The views were incredible, the climb was so fun, and overall an experience I wanted to repeat every subsequent day of our trip. The small group was great so that we could listen to the guide well and adjust our trip based on the group. It lasted about 4 hours - most of that time on the glacier. We had a short ride to the base followed by a short hike before getting our crampons on and exploring the glacier. Thank you so much for this unforgettable experience!

5.00It was really great. Our tour guide was very cheerful, relaxed, and attentive. He explained and showed us everything in detail. Although we did not have the best weather, it was a breathtakingly beautiful experience and was a lot of fun. It was also not too strenuous; many breaks were made for explanations or for taking photos. With normal fitness, this is easily achievable.

5.00A special experience with a nice guide. It was very special to walk over the glacier and the guide who explains all aspects in detail. From how to walk to the climate influences. He also kept a close eye on the group. I'm a bit older (67) but I could come along well. The guide helped me where necessary. It was an unforgettable experience.

5.00PRZEMYSLAV WAS AN AWESOME GUIDE! Tour was amazing felt super safe made sure we had plenty of time for photos and he had a bunch of info and energy that made the trip very fun and memorable. Was the advertised 3-4 hours for the visit which as a casual hiker was just enough before it became difficult. Was with about 10 or so people total and again our guide was great at getting all of us involved.
