Dive into the breathtaking scenery of untouched raised bog habitats as you leisurely walk along the sturdy wooden boardwalk. Covering an area of over 6,000 hectares, Ķemeri Great Bog is one of the largest bogs in Latvia. Renowned for its unique scenery and pristine raised bog habitat, it holds priority status as a habitat of European importance. Whether it's the vibrant blooms of spring, the lush greenery of summer, the golden hues of autumn, or the serene tranquility of winter, Great Ķemeri Bog promises a mesmerizing experience year-round.

Sloka Lake Walking Trail

Amazed by the unique and expansive raised bog landscape? You definitely will be. Now, it's time to explore some more of the local natural wonders - unique Black Alder swamp forests. Enbak for an approximately 2-hour 5-kilometer hike on the Slokas Lake nature trail and witness some of the most amazing flooded forest landscapes that you can imagine. The trail leads through a mesmerizing wet forest crossing the flooded areas on a boardwalk and along the beautiful Sloka Lake. Be prepared for one-of-a-kind photos and Instagram shots here. NOTE: Note that the swamp forest is fully flooded in high water season only the most impressive being in the spring months (April and May) and late autumn (end of September and October). Although not always flooded the place is gorgeous and very green at every time during the season (from April to October).

We did this tour with Rolands who has a background in nature conservation and who is very knowledgeable about different trees and ecosystems. He was very friendly and paced the walking to our speed. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Latvia as it shows the differences between two major ecosystems in Latvia : bogs and swamplands. It was great to disconnect from the city and breath in the pure air of the countryside (even the sulphur smelling air of the swampland!!) Our trip was on New Year’s Eve and we were very fortunate to have the sun in the sky and perfect snow all around us. It was like being in a winter wonderland. This is the kind of tour that could be done several times as the different seasons will each add something new to the experience. Thanks to Rolands for the explanations and the beautiful photos he took of us.

Our guide, Rolands is a super person full of enthusiasm, extremely knowledgeable and very pleasant. The tour was the Great Kemeri Bog and Forest Hiking Adventure. The scenery was beautiful and Roland’s commentary was very comprehensive and enjoyable. During this excursion, it became evident how much pristine nature in Latvia has been preserved. The hike was a great workout in a truly gorgeous place. I would highly recommend this experience and Rolands, our fabulous guide!

This is a fantastic tour of a unique environment that allows you to become fully immersed in the special landscape of Latvia. I was lucky enough to do the tour in mid September when the vibrant colors of the moss, other plants, and trees made the big a sight to behold. The guide, Rolands, was extremely knowledgeable about the ecology and environment! He was patient with all of my questions and a pleasure to have as a host.

The landscape is HUGE and its not even the biggest. Would recommend comming on spring/summer time for extra experience. The guide was very informative and friendly!

Rolands was a really nice tour guide. He explained a lot about Latvian culture, the national park and its importance. The national park is an amazing place, which is definitvely worth the visit! With its special colours and atmosphere, the national park is a great contrast to the city Riga. If you want to really dive into the Latvian culture, you need to be in nature. Paldies to Rolands, we would, of course, do the trip again!

It was a great trip. Rolands is a friendly and experienced guide with a lot of knowledge about nature and the country. He showed us the most beautiful places in the national park and offered us a typical local lunch. It was an unforgettable day.
