You´ll discover the unique flavors of the local cooking while learning about traditional ways of life. As part of this class, you will visit a local market, choose exotic ingredients, and learn to cook 5 typical dishes. (3 main dishes and 2 complements) We will bring you to the local market where you can sample a lot of the exotic fruits. Maybe you had no clue what half the fruits were. Without a local guide, you would’ve missed out on so many food opportunities!

If ever you want to eat delicious food but also want to learn how to prepare it, we offers very fun cooking workshops options. We will bring you to the local market where you can sample a lot of the exotic fruits. maybe you had no clue what half the fruits were. Without a local guide, you would’ve missed out on so many food opportunities! (On Sunday afternoon the experience may be different, because many of the local vendors they close on Sunday afternoon for rest. You will see many things but not like in a regular day) After gathering the produce, you are then brought to their rooftop cooking studio where you prepare your own lunch or dinner. From there, you have a fantastic view of mountains as well as the Volcano. By sharing their food, you will feel like you are part of their culture!

Wonderful introduction to food and cooking in Antigua! Milton was such an informative guide to the amazing local food market. Then taking produce back to his rooftop kitchen and preparing a meal was such a treat! A special and immersive Guatemalan experience. And delicious!
Perfectly fabulous experience and very personal!! Must do this one.

The guide/leader of this experience is Milton - he’s a native Guatemalan with a lovely heart, a lovely home and family and lots of life-wisdom, in addition to great cooking skills! You begin the tour with a visit/walkthrough of the central market in Antigua and Milton explains in a fun and educated way what all the products are…. And why they are …for example - why is the meat not refrigerated? Why do I buy from this vendor or that one? It’s a very interesting experience. You then go to his real family home which is a 10 minute ride away and prepare your meal. At the top floor of the home is a beautiful outdoor space where he has set up the table and cooking areas. (There is a small roof over one part where the table is, in case of rain, which it briefly did the night I was there.) Again, he explains and provides all sorts of interesting history and fun facts about the food and he teaches you to prepare it. Wine and other beverages are served of course. While chopping, Milton shared about his own life and history and the history of his family. Mom came up and laughed and participated a bit - and Milton’s oldest son was busy doing the scut work of the meal, stirring and kindling and whatnot. He said that sometimes abuela comes up as well but we did not see her that night. Milton said he limits his groups to under 8; the night I was there, it was only myself and another woman from the U.S. so we chattered away and became instant friends. Then of course you eat and it was very delicious. At the beginning, Milton inquires about food allergies, intolerances, etc and he is very attentive and experienced with all sorts of requests (I for example, HATE cilantro, which is quite the staple of Guatemalan cooking so he made it work for me, keeping the evil herb separate.) It was a lovely and very personal experience and a highlight of my trip.

Milton is such a great tour guide and experience provider. He is very knowledgeable, kind and has thought of every detail in creating a great experience. It is clear he has poured his heart into making this experience unforgettable for all.
Best experience in Guatemala. Our family enjoyed learning about the local produce and cuisine. Milton was perfection!!!!

Milton took our little group through the local market and explained so much. Then Tuk Tuks back to his welcoming home for dinner. It was a beautiful experience and the meal was delicious. There were a total of 8 of us and couldn’t have asked for a better intro to this beautiful country. Milton and his hospitality made our trip extra special. Forever grateful.

This was an amazing experience! Everyone who visits Antigua Guatemala should be able to take this cooking class. You are able to learn so much about the culture and foods that Guatemala has to offer. Milton and his family were so welcoming during the class. I can’t express enough how enjoyable this was. My partner and I loved it! You will not leave hungry either!

Loved this experience! The market tour was very informative and it was great to see a part of Antigua that we probably wouldn’t have otherwise seen. The food was great, and the vibe at the house and patio was awesome. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a memorable experience outside of the busy city center.

Best thing I did in Antigua! Milton was so knowledgeable about the origins of Guatemalan produce- the market tour was a really cool experience. Cooking on his families rooftop was amazing and the food was delicious! Great activity for any solo travelers and gives you insight into how local antiguans live.

By far the greatest food and experience my wife and I had in ALL of guatemala. Highlight of our trip! We did many things in Antigua, watched volcanoes erupt, hiked acatenango, enjoyed the city of Guatemala, traveled the towns and experienced cultures across Atitlan and my Wife and I agree that this was the best part of our trip. A wonderful host and family experience that welcomes you into the Mayan culture while making yoy feel at home. This is not a tour, or an event, but an experience that everyone traveling to Guatemala should partake in!
