The ancient Mayan city of Tikal, located in the municipality of Flores, department of Petén, constitutes the largest pre-Hispanic settlement in Guatemala, whose population could have reached 100,000 during its time of greatest splendour. Tikal has about 5,000 pre-Hispanic buildings in an area of approximately 16 km2, of which only 5% is restored and enabled for its visit. Tikal is one of the highest exponents of the typical Mayan central lowland architectural style, showing exquisite examples of temples in the form of step pyramids such as the Great Jaguar (Temple I). The Tikal exploration is designed to be 3 to 4 hours with time needed for your photos, scale structures and breaks.
