Famous for its centuries-old forging tradition, Da Sy was once known for supplying weaponry during Vietnam’s historical wars. In this interactive workshop, you’ll immerse yourself in the knife-making process, step by step: - Design: Begin by sketching your blade on a carefully selected piece of durable metal, chosen for its strength and quality. - Forging: Cut out the blade and tang (the part that fits into the handle) using traditional tools like hammers, cutters, and an anvil. Heat them in the fiery forge to prepare for shaping. - Shaping: Work side-by-side with artisans, taking turns hammering the metal into the desired shape. A hydraulic machine will help refine any rough edges for a smooth finish. - Sharpening: Finally, sharpen the blade on a grindstone. This process includes several steps, one involving a unique tar-based wash—an age-old family secret passed down through generations! Throughout the experience, our skilled artisan will guide you, ensuring every detail of your work reflects your personal touch. You’ll bring home not just a beautifully crafted knife but also a part of yourself in its creation—a piece you can use to create delicious meals and lasting memories.

5.00It was a blast! It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I would recommend to anyone. 🔥 The admission fee was about €35 (Booking.com reduced the original price of €39 by 10%). Everything was organized via WhatsApp, and the manager responded quickly. He also provided lots of photos of past knives and designs to choose from. I was alone with my guide, Daisy, as well as the nationally certified master smith, Chien. It was an amazingly personal workshop! You can choose any knife design you want! Just imagine creating your favorite movie knife or short sword! I chose a gyuto knife with a notch, similar to a kitsune knife. 😍 However, be careful with the customs laws in your country, as short swords might be forbidden. ☝🏼 It took us three hours from start to finish, partly because they spent extra time with me. Daisy took lots of great photos and videos of me and the process. They were so welcoming and helpful! I'm not a skilled craftsman, but I still wanted to try doing everything myself, and they let me, even though it would take longer than usual. They didn't say so, but I'm pretty sure. 🥳 Don't worry, though. Everyone will participate in creating the knife, except maybe for sharpening it with the rolling whetstone, as this can be dangerous. But if there aren't too many guests, it'll be fine. 😉 I chose a circular pattern for the handle, which I made out of white clay and darkened in the oven (except for the parts covered with a cloth wrap). In the end, I could even name and stamp it myself! 🤩 I didn't find it too demanding. First, you cut the handle from wood. Then, you hammer the blade together with the blacksmith. Next, you sharpen it and finish the handle. In the end, you'll have a great knife that can easily cut through paper. 🔪 One thing to note: you need to treat the wood handle after the workshop if you want to keep the color and contrast but they will recommend you the right coating. 🖌️ I was expecting to work with the female artisan blacksmith, but she is too old now. Nevertheless, the business is family-owned, and the male blacksmith is her younger brother. He doesn't know English, but he's still very friendly and funny. It's not a problem, though, as Daisy can translate anything. One tip for getting here: using Grab, I was dropped off about a five-minute walk from the actual workshop. I don't know why, since I gave the correct address. Make sure the driver has the exact location when coming here, or tell him if he doesn't. It might be due to the local GPS or street numbering system; I'm not sure. Luckily, the address was easy to find. However, I would appreciate a picture of the workshop's front. 😇 Overall, it was an incredible and intimate experience. Creating your own knife and bringing it home as a souvenir is a unique opportunity that few people get to experience.

5.00I couldn’t recommend this enough! Must do! You get, not only a wholly one-of-one experience, but also one of the most unique souvenirs you could ever ask for. They do an excellent job of walking you through the entire process and let you design and craft your knife to your exact preferences. The knife you end up with is razor sharp and looks and feels incredible. You also get to learn about the storied history of knife making in this village which is so fascinating The artisan who walks you through the process is incredible to watch work.

5.00I was as single there and the lady explained the family Tradition and every Step in the manufaturing. Very insightfull. I was allowed to do many things on my own. But of course the Master also helped. You can even bring your own knive designs. Perfect experience.
