Famous for its centuries-old forging tradition, Da Sy was once known for supplying weaponry during Vietnam’s historical wars. In this interactive workshop, you’ll immerse yourself in the knife-making process, step by step: - Design: Begin by sketching your blade on a carefully selected piece of durable metal, chosen for its strength and quality. - Forging: Cut out the blade and tang (the part that fits into the handle) using traditional tools like hammers, cutters, and an anvil. Heat them in the fiery forge to prepare for shaping. - Shaping: Work side-by-side with artisans, taking turns hammering the metal into the desired shape. A hydraulic machine will help refine any rough edges for a smooth finish. - Sharpening: Finally, sharpen the blade on a grindstone. This process includes several steps, one involving a unique tar-based wash—an age-old family secret passed down through generations! Throughout the experience, our skilled artisan will guide you, ensuring every detail of your work reflects your personal touch. You’ll bring home not just a beautifully crafted knife but also a part of yourself in its creation—a piece you can use to create delicious meals and lasting memories.

If you want a truly local experience this is your chance. The tourgide Mint is super friendly and will tell you stuff about the knife making village. The lady making the knives is truly inspiring, she has been doing this craft for more than 40 years.

This was our hightlight during our time in Hanoi! Nick was an amazing guide and explained everything in such detail and was super fund and open to talk to! It was incredible to see Auntie Tuyen during her work! She truly is impressive and was so kind and sweet as well! We got to make the knife from scratch in about 2 hours and had 100% creative control. Learning about traditional vietnamese knife making was super interesting and something we never thought we could experience, so we are truly greatful. We even got invited for lunch with the family, which just shows how welcoming and warm vietnamese people are. If you looking for a unique experience in Hanoi we would 100% recommend this workshop!

I couldn’t recommend this experience more. Nick and Mrs. Tuyen are incredibly kind and welcoming. It’s inspiring to see how passionate Mrs. Tuyen is about her craft, and Nick is fantastic with translation, very accommodating, and very funny. The knife-making itself is engaging and fun, and the quality of the knives is outstanding.

I had such an amazing time. They were so patient, fun, & funny. She was very knowledgeable, passionate, sweet & cute lady. It was a bit scary for some parts of the process, but she was gentle & comforting while she guided me. I am very happy with the knife style I showed them I wanted to make, they made it come to life. I 💯 recommend her workshop.

We have booked the knife forging course as a group. At a local knifesmith we were shown various practices from decades of activity. Through our guide Mint also the communication went great. The knives we have built have far exceeded our expectations and will soon be used in the kitchen. Thank you for this experience!
