The central square of Ulaanbaatar originally bore the name of Sukhbaatar, a people’s hero of the beginning of 20th century when the country’s journey toward independence started. Today it bears the name of Chinggis Khan’s (Mongolian spelling) and provides a great view point to many important landmarks of past and the present not to mention the rich vibe of cultural events and social gatherings: wedding, graduations, reunions etc.

Tour Guide Did Not Perform Booked Tour

1.00I waited for an hour for the tour guide to arrive and they did not respond to my communications. Had to contact Viator directly to achieve communication. The tour guide said there was a mix up so they were late. Then, they told me all the attractions were closed for country-wide voting and they would not be able to complete the booked tour. They then said they would take me out into the country for a 4 hour drive each direction to see the statue. I had no intention or interest in the modification. They had my reservation over a month in advance and they took my money, but did not notify me the booked tour would not take place due to the election. Completely unprofessional and unacceptable. Ruined our short trip to Mongolia.

5.00A fantastic introduction to my stay in Mongolia. My day began in heavy overnight snowfall at the serene Buddhist temple where I witnessed the monks chanting. We continued around the must see National Museum and Central Square districts before visiting the ex Soviet style monument in the afternoon with breathtaking views over the city. The evening cultural performance gives you an insight into the musical and cultural traditions of Mongolia. I highly rate this tour and guide!

5.00Our guide was terrific. She saw us through the programme and was very thorough with explanations of the things and with Mongolian history. Her English skills were excellent and she was very open about the situation in the country as she sees it.
