  I feel like I lucked out with having Joshua as my tour guide and having CA Travellers as the tour company. The hike up was great, the cabins were cold but cozy. Lunch, dinner and breakfast were all delicious and had plenty of food. Highly recommend!!!

  The hike was demanding but very beautiful. The weak point is accommodation: 6 people in a small cabin. Moreover, to do it again I would have brought my own food (not enough food provided).

  

  

  

  

  

• Markup fake operator

  Heads up to anyone looking at this booking: the company listed here isn't actually running the tour. They’re essentially a middleman adding a massive markup for no reason. I found out the hard way that the real operator is Brothers Expeditions. Most of the people in our group (there were over 50 of us) booked with them directly and paid way less than the price shown here. This page seems to just "skim off the top" without adding any actual value to the trip. The tour itself is pretty basic. Honestly, there are plenty of other options out there with better guides and nicer accommodations. If you really want this specific itinerary, do yourself a favor: book directly with Brothers Expeditions and save your money. It’s frustrating that platforms allow these inflated price traps to stay up.

• Don’t book this here, book way cheaper with an operator in Antigua

  Like other reviewers, I can only warn people to not book your Acatenango hike through this company. They use Brothers Expedition who would be a whole lot cheaper when booked through them directly. I still had to pay park entrance fee to them even though it was supposedly included in my 129USD fee (which is wayyyy more than the rest of my group paid). The hike itself is good but Brothers were quite bad. They didn’t hand out coats to everyone, they had people pay for uncharged head torches, the hiking poles I rented were faulty, we had to wait super long all the time (especially when hiking up and down El Fuego which had to be aborted due to bad weather) and when we returned to the camp at night (we were all soaking wet) it took them almost an hour to give us dinner and even longer to light a fire (which was finally on at 11pm when we all were in / going to bed). The worst of all was that they use bunk beds that sleep 14 people in total and myself and other short women had to sleep on the top bunk which was IMPOSSIBLE to get in and out of without help from others. After we got back down Acatenango on the second day we waited for ages for the bus to take us back to Antigua. Overall I didn’t think it was worth my money (129 USD + 10USD for poles + 50Q entrance fee + 40USD Fuego hike (which we didn’t complete due to weather)) at all to be waiting all the time and sleeping in an awful bed which made it impossible to get up for the sunrise hike as I couldn’t get out of bed. Like another reviewer said, don’t panic and just book with an operator when you get to Antigua.

• Scam and false advertising, don’t book

  This tour is a scam. It is a scam in that you pay a lot of money to them, but it is not them who organize the tour. They book it themselves trough one of the cheapest providers available. Most people on the tour payed like 45 euro trough their hostel the day before, so don’t be scared of the lack of availability, there is almost always place. Do the hike, BUT DONT BOOK THIS ONE! The hike is pretty cool, it is a shame that some people mislead, scam and overcharge people.

  The tour guides, there was like 4 stuck with me the whole time which I loved they never leave ANYONE behind.I was pacing at first but my legs went out and one of them icyhot them for me they’re super sweet, patient and overall will support you and motivate you.

  

  

• Loved safety, clarity and trek!

  5/5! So appreciative of their knowledge base, translations to english, and safety during the entire trek. They had those routes memorized day and night. They had extra jackets, gloves hats headlamps hiking poles and backpacks for us during the hike incase we are missing anything. Bring your own waters and they gave us lunch, dinner and breakfast during the trek! I most appreciated the safety and pace during the hike and company all in all is fantastic would go with them again!

  

  

  

  

• Highly Challenging- highly rewarding experience

  This experience is facilitated by Brothers expeditions. The guides are very friendly and helpful and we had an English speaking guide. They are very accommodating for people that have slower pace. Regarding food breakfast and lunch were great, but dinner could be better. Regarding accommodation in the camp, there were caving of 7-8 people- sleep was not great but I think this is the case with any group and it is related to cold and high altitude. They will ask you for about 3 (for you) and 1 (for cooking) L of water. I recommend to just buy from the top so you don’t have to carry 4 extra kg in the back pack if you’re willing though to spend Q15-25 per bottle. There are many stops along the climb so this makes the experience easier. Definitely do the forgo hike - this was kinda hard delayed how hard it was (it was really hard after the initial hike) but it is definitely worth seeing the volcano closer at night. Overall I definitely recommend the group!!

  The hike - views and nature were amazing. This company was not as advertised and I would not recommend. I have never left a review anywhere before but I feel compelled to give other travellers several warnings: 1. Zero communication: The guides chose not to communicate with our group at all. They would often leave us behind on the trail, appeared annoyed by questions, and refused to communicate, in English or Spanish, despite many of us speaking both. They often came across as annoyed and impatient. They were extremely disorganized. 2. Hidden fees: Below is what was advertised for $180.00 Canadian: “Entry/Admission - Turístico Volcán Acatenango Entry/Admission - Acatenango Hike to volcano of fire, this has an extra cost of Q225 US$30.00 per person” Despite this, we were still charged Q100 per person for the park fees. We were also charged $40.00 (USD) per person for the volcano. When we challenged the guides on these fee’s they refused to listen and said we had to pay in order to receive a wrist band. 3. Accommodations: When you arrive to the camp you discover trash everywhere. Not a huge deal, it is what it is. The huts you sleep in have one sleeping bag, pillow, and blanket per person. The sleeping bags and pillows were dirty and very obviously pre-used without having been washed. 4. Food: Lunch was a small sandwich, and wasn’t bad at all. Dinner was a small portion of pasta. We were fed around 10:30pm after the Fuego Ridge hike. Breakfast was a slice and a half of banana bread and a half cup of hot chocolate. Overall not impressed for $180.00. Felt like a scam. 5. “Operator”: The Tripadvisor operator states “AcateGo GT” as the operator, but it’s actually Brothers Expeditions. Not a huge issue, just outlining for anyone else looking into this advertisement. Overall, our group was great, the hike was enjoyable, and the scenery was awesome. I would never use this company, or anyone else that hires “brothers expeditions” as the guides for the hike. It’s not as advertised, they’ll scam you, and they won’t care and will leave members of your group behind.

• An Incredible Volcano Experience from Day to Night

  Volcano hikes can be quite demanding, especially for those with limited outdoor experience. The cold temperatures and high altitude add an extra challenge. However, our guide was incredibly supportive throughout the entire trip—patient, knowledgeable, and always attentive to the group’s needs. We enjoyed breathtaking views of the volcano both during the day and at night, gathered around bonfires, and shared great conversations with wonderful teammates. It was truly a memorable experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an adventurous and rewarding trip.
