The Izta Popo National Park has 2 volcanoes in the same place. We have designed hiking routes so you can enjoy the incredible views of the dormant volcano Iztaccíhuatl and the active volcano Popocatépetl. Our certified guide will explain the flora and fauna of the place. Live and breathe pure air at about 3,600 meters above sea level and 4,300 meters above sea level. It is an excellent place to share a wonderful experience alone, with friends or family. The tour includes round-trip transportation.
Choose between:
Level 1. The walk begins at about 3,600 meters above sea level and ends at 3,980 meters above sea level. The trail is marked sandy. The total is approximately 8-9km of which 4km are moderate climbs and 4km are downhills.
Level 2. The total is 14km of which 4km are uphill and the rest downhill with a few meters of moderate ascent. The trail is marked, mostly sandy with an outward view of the Izta and a return view of the Popo.
Level 3. It is a 7km walk at an altitude of between 4,000 and 4,500 meters above sea level where there will be sand and stone.

Paso de Cortes
Our adventure begins at the Paso de Cortés. At this point we leave the vehicle, our certified guide gives us the instructions and we prepare for the walk. We have 3 route options with different levels of difficulty. Well, choose one, any of the 3 options. All have been carefully designed so that you do not miss the wonderful views offered by the volcanoes.
Iztaccihuatl and Popocatepetl National Park
On this tour you can choose between 3 different levels: Level 1 = In this tour we walk along trails marked out towards the Izta volcano. It is a harmonious walk where we will arrive at a viewpoint where you can admire the beauty of Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl. Distance from 9 to 11km, between altitudes of 3,670 and 4,000 masl. 330m drop. Level 2 = On this route we pass through an area of springs and forest, admiring the beautiful views that characterize this National Park. It has trails not so marked, off-road in grasslands and uphill. Distance from 14.5 to 15km between altitudes of 3,670 and 4,100 masl with a 580m drop. Level 3 = We will walk at a higher altitude, at this height the views are panoramic. The paths are made of stone, sand and slopes. This route is known as the "Ruta de Portillos" in which we will arrive at the 2nd or 3rd gate depending on the weather conditions. Distance of 7 km between altitudes of 3,900 and 4,300 masl with a 420m drop

More distance. Intermediate: Distance of 13 to 14km between altitudes of 3,600 and 3,950 meters above sea level with a gradient of 350m. We visited a natural waterfall and springs.

5.00We were accompanied by Luis for this hike of about 13km. Frankly, everything was perfect... Luis is simply adorable, will adapt to your pace and make you discover a piece of his country. The scenery is sumptuous. Plan water (we had 4l for 2 people), something to eat at lunch (picnic) and something to cover you because depending on the weather it can be cold I think. We were lucky enough to have a good time, I had a t-shirt, a midlayer and a fleece. A real favorite for this hike.

5.00We had the tour intermediate-advanced. It doesn't hurt to bring hiking experience and experience at altitude, as it goes up to 4500 meters - and of course good shoes! Our guide Luiz picked us up from the hotel at 5am and brought us back in the evening. He has and told a lot about the surroundings and was super likeable! We got plenty of time to climb and relax on the three viewpoints. We had a great group of 7 people. We got hiking sticks and helmets on site, brought food and drink ourselves. The view was great - we were lucky with the weather.

5.00Well organized trip to a volcano with beautiful landscapes. We were lucky with the view and so many other volcanoes in the region, including the highest in the country. Guiden Luis had good knowledge of outdoor life and the local history and nature. He was considerate and tailored to our shape.

5.00The hiking excursion at the Iztacíhuatl volcano was an incredible experience. The Iztaccíhuatl-Popocatépetl National Park has spectacular scenery, surrounded by the two imposing volcanoes, and the cool/cold climate makes the hike even more pleasant (if you feel the cold very in the morning). It is totally worth the views and direct contact with nature. Our guide, Luis, was excellent throughout. He explains in great detail and in a very clear way, always answering questions with patience and kindness. Your knowledge and passion for the place is rating, which makes the experience even more enriching. I have no complaints about the organization chelocotours, everything was impeccable. I totally recommend this excursion to those looking for a well-guided hiking plan, with stunning scenery and first-rate Service.

5.00First of all: we really enjoyed the hike with our amazing guide Luis and can only recommend it to anyone who enjoys nature and being in touch with a local person. We booked our tour via Viator and got all the information we needed via mail. Our guide Luis picked us up on time at our hostel. The level 2 hike was really managable, even though we hadn't been in this altitude for long. Luis was very considerate with the pace, so that we could enjoy the hike very much. There was also a lot of time to talk about many topics with him to gain insight into the views of a local person. The views of the volcanos were amazing too, the clouds were coming in just after our lunch so that we had all morning to admire them. Thanks again Luis!
