Reflect at the Cenotaph, which lists the names of those lost, and offers a poignant view of the Dome. Visit the Children's Peace Monument, adorned with colorful paper cranes, symbolizing hope and resilience. Stroll through the serene park, appreciating the various sculptures and memorials dedicated to peace, and participate in moments of quiet reflection and remembrance.

The Dome, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands as a stark reminder of the devastation of the atomic bomb on August 6, 1945. Visitors can walk around the structure, taking in the preserved ruins that contrast with the surrounding modern city. Informational plaques provide historical context and personal stories of those affected. We had an exceptional tour with Riona, who guided us through Hiroshima with warmth, insight, and genuine passion for her city. She expertly balanced iconic sites, such as the Peace Memorial Park, the Atomic Bomb Dome, and Shukkeien Garden, with hidden local gems we would never have found on our own. Her knowledge of Hiroshima’s history and culture was outstanding, and her calm, friendly manner made the entire experience unforgettable. Our visit to Miyajima and Itsukushima Shrine was a true highlight. We highly recommend a tour with Riona to anyone wanting a meaningful, enriching, and beautifully ,relaxed guided introduction to Hiroshima. Thank you Riona - Katherine & Roddy

Emiko was an excellent guide! She was very knowledgeable and made the tour very interactive and fun. We enjoyed Miyajima island with the floating Tori gate and Daisho Temple. The Hiroshima Memorial park was also a highlight. We highly recommend Emiko and this tour!

Our tour with Yukari a local Japanese and English speaker was wonderful! She ensured we understood the train system to meet her at the designated train station before we arrived and communicated with us before hand. She then shepherded us the entire 7 hours we were together. Her knowledge and experience were invaluable and going to Miyajima Island first to beat the crowds and then Hiroshima Peace Memorial later was very well planned. We loved the whole day, her insight and deep understanding of everything was evident. She took pictures for us, gave us history and context of the reverberations of the atomic bomb on the entire country and how important peace in our world truly is. We enjoyed a local lunch with a delicious meal called Okonomiyaki at a reasonable price!

We loved our time with Yuka our Japanese and English speaking guide. We came from a cruise ship and she met us in the morning after we took the main train near Miyajima Island and she was waiting for us. From there our day was wonderful. Miyajima island is a must do and Yuka provided wonderful commentary, suggestions and photo opportunities. We ate lunch near the ferry terminal enjoying local okonomyaki and then took a local train to the Atomic Bomb memorial and Peace Museum where we spent a couple hours visiting this somber but peace filled memorial. Yuka’s insight was invaluable and we thoroughly enjoyed our almost 7 hours with her. We made it back to the cruise ship with time to spare.

We had Toshi san as our guide who was a native of Hiroshima and whose mother was a survivor of the bomb. We were very privileged to have such a knowledgeable guide with a direct connection to the events of 1945. The Peace Park and museum were sobering, however were well worth the visit. The stories behind the dome, the rest house with its one survivor and the hospital at the hypocentre will stay with us forever. We then visited Miyajima island and Toshi showed us some key temples and shrines including of course the floating Tori gate. An okonomiyaki lunch was also a highlight of our tour. We highly recommend this tour and particularly our excellent guide, Toshi san.

Nami-San was extremely well versed in all things dealing with Hiroshima and Miyajima. She met us right at the train. Took us to the most famous site in Hiroshima, The Atomic Dome, then to the actual point the bomb detonated, and explained everything about that location. Followed by a very intense trip through the Peace Museum. It was very interesting and educational. For lunch she took us for a traditional Hiroshima meal at a Okonomiyaki shop. As a picky eater, I throughly enjoyed the meal. Then it was on to a bus to take the train and Ferry to Miyajima Island. She explained everything about the island, the ancient temple and how it recently only has been inhabited by non monks. She also explained that 60% of all the oyster consumed in Japan are harvested from this area. You will see many oyster beds on the ferry ride. The tour was wonderful, busy and super interesting. Thank you Nani-san!

Our tour guide Eri was great! We did the most common itinerary, with the Miyajima island tour, okonomiyaki lunch (one of the best meals we had in Japan), and the Peace Park. This tour is beautiful. By nature of the history, it's emotionally intense. I learned a lot and am grateful we had a guide who made us comfortable with asking lots of questions. She also made sure we stayed hydrated and took breaks to cool off from the summer heat and humidity. Tip for fellow bug-bite magnets, bring some bug repellent for the Peace Park. I got several bites, though my husband and our guide didn't get any.
