An amazing exploration of Miyajima and the Hiroshima Peace Museum and park. Our guide, Yuka, was a pleasure to spend the day with, and we learnt so much from her. We loved how Yuka contacted us in advance to discuss and plan the itinerary to suit our needs before we arrived. On the day the experience was seamless, including a great restaurant that Yuka pre-booked for our lunch where we were able to eat Okonomiyaki that was cooked in front of us. Yuka also ensured that the restaurant provided a vegetarian option for us. I would strongly recommend this tour to maximise your time in Hiroshima. Thank you so much Yuka - it was a pleasure to meet you and you ensured we had a fantastic day in Hiroshima.

Our private walking tour in Hiroshima was absolutely phenomenal, largely thanks to our guide, Tomo-san. From the moment she picked us up directly from the Shinkansen station and booked a taxi for us to go the museum. The driver who accompanied us was extremely kind and escorted us smoothly, with him and Tomo-san even agreeing to stop to take a photo with the atomic dome. As a result, she made everything feel effortless. Even though our tour had to be shorter because we needed to catch a train to our next destination, Tomo-san managed the pace perfectly to ensure we saw everything without ever feeling rushed. We avoided large crowds, and it was shocking to learn the mass Tourism on Mijayama reaches over a million tourists a year! I highly recommend that to fully enjoy this experience, you go with a small group of about 4-6 to ensure its authentic and cost-friendly. Tomo-san is an incredible person—so open-minded and easy to talk to. I loved sharing stories about where I’m from with her, and she was equally open about her own life, telling us about her studies in medicine and ongoing career in pharmacy. By the end of the day, she felt like a great friend. She made the logistics seamless, ensuring we had our Suica cards ready for the ferry boarding. The ferry ride to Miyajima was so comfortable and peaceful that you could honestly fall asleep during the trip. On Miyajima, the atmosphere is enchanting. We spent time at the iconic Itsukushima Shrine, watching the floating torii gate, and wandering through the charming traditional streets and fun shopping areas. A highlight was definitely the friendly deer that roam freely around the island; they are everywhere and so accustomed to people but are quieter than the Nara deer! While you explore, the matcha ice cream is an absolute must-have, especially the soft serve as it doesn't melt easily at all. Just keep in mind that while your guide is the expert, you’ll need to cover your own entrance fees for the museum and shrine. However, the heart of the tour was the visit to the Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome. Seeing the skeletal ruins of the Dome—the only structure left standing near the hypocenter—is a haunting experience. One of the most interesting and moving sights was the Flame of Peace; Tomo-san explained that this torch was lit in 1964 and will never be extinguished until every single nuclear weapon on Earth is destroyed. Tomo-san explained the brutal reality of August 6, 1945, with incredible depth. It was devastating to learn the devastating history of that day: the heat was so intense it carbonized people instantly, and those who survived the initial blast often faced black rain—highly radioactive fallout that poisoned those desperate enough to drink it. The most moving part was when she shared a personal story about her own relative who was severely affected by radiation. Even years after the bombing, they suffered the long-term effects of radiation sickness, a reminder that the tragedy didn't end when the smoke cleared. Despite the intensity of the history, Tomo-san's warmth and expert pacing made the day feel balanced. She even dropped us back off at the Shinkansen and rode with us on the train ensure we made our next journey smoothly. If you want a guide who offers both deep historical insight and genuine friendship, Tomo-san is the one to ask for.

Toured Miyajima and Peace Memorial Park and Museum with our guide, Eri. Having a guide with us was extremely helpful so we could get from place to place, navigate trains, speed boat, and taxi transport to various locations. Eri was knowledgeable and shared stories and personal accounts of the atomic bomb effects with us. She taught us about the customs and traditions of Itsukushima shrine and guided us to a local favorite okonomiyaki restaurant for lunch. This was a highlight of our Japan trip! Eri also knew which spots are the best for photos.

This was a well thought out and planned tour. Joe and his company got in touch a week before to ask if there were any specific places we’d like to go and then went out of his way to plan for what we’d asked.we learnt lots and saw some beautiful and interesting sites in Hiroshima/miyojima.

What an excellent tour! About a weekend before we even went, we were introduced to our tour guide and asked if there was anything specific we would like. Joe made every effort to accommodate our request and came with us to the top of Mt Misen! There was no rushing, we got great explanations of where we went and the places we ate were great recommendations. This was exactly what we wanted for our limited time in Hiroshima and can’t recommend Joe or the tour highly enough!
