Nicolette was very knowledgeable and a delight to be with as we walked the historic loop of Ajaccio. We were caught in a pouring rain, but we decided to stick together celebrating the downpour and nature’s bounty - even “Singing in the Rain.”The food in the little shop was delicious and cozy from the wet. We voted to skip the market due to the rain because we had visited it earlier in the day. We loved Nicolette and Ajaccio!!

Today we joined the Historical and Gastronomic Visit of Ajaccio with Nicole, conducted in French and lasting about two hours. Since it’s low season, we were the only two participants on the tour, along with Nicole. Writing this review is genuinely difficult for me, as I usually write 5-star reviews when I truly enjoy a restaurant, hotel, or experience and want to share something positive. In this case, however, I feel it’s important to offer honest feedback so future guests can make an informed decision. First of all, Nicole, our local guide, was absolutely kind, well-intentioned, and good-hearted. Unfortunately, despite her friendliness, the tour itself was deeply disappointing — both historically and gastronomically. We paid €75 per person for a history and food tour that, sadly, lacked depth, structure, and added value. From a historical standpoint, the content was unorganized, confusing, very vague, and didn’t feel very accurate or compelling. We only visited four sites — Napoleon’s birthplace (from the outside), the Cathedral, the Citadel (from the outside), and the Market — and the explanations remained extremely superficial. We’re not locals; it was our first time in Corsica and Ajaccio, and we didn’t feel we learned anything we didn’t already know. From a food perspective, all tastings were grouped at the very end of the tour, during a single stop at Épicerie Brama. We were served a traditional onion pastry (bastelle), a small charcuterie board (with lonzu, sausage, and coppa), and a slice of Corsican ricotta cheesecake (fiadone). The quality was fine, but the quantity and level of explanation were far below expectations for a €75 experience. There was virtually no background provided on the origins, preparation, or producers of the dishes and products — no mention of AOP charcuterie, local traditions, or the history of the recipes. Wine was not included; we ordered and paid for a glass of white wine separately, and again, no information about the region, grape variety, or winemaker was provided. As frequent travelers who love both history and gastronomy and who very often take food tours around the world, we were disappointed to find that this experience didn’t offer the insight, engagement, or value we expected. We were hoping this would be a highlight of our trip and a true introduction to the gastronomy of the island — but we couldn’t have been more disappointed. It genuinely pains me to write this, because Nicole herself was lovely — but the content of the tour, in its current form, does not, by any means, meet the standard of a professional food and history experience.

Nicolette was a very sincere person but was poorly organized as a guide. The tour started poorly when she made no effort to find our group at the meeting point. (Clipboard with our name on might have been nice.) I suppose the tour title was accurate about Walk Around the Historic Centre of Ajaccio. But that’s all we did. We walked around the outside perimeter with very few stops and descriptions of what we were seeing. An even bigger disappointment was the gastronomic aspect. A food tour to use involves stops at a few restaurants or bakeries to sample local specialties. Instead, after completing our lap of downtown Ajaccio, we went to an upper room at a grocery store where the guide had bought some sliced meats and cheeses, then didn’t describe them. Give this tour a pass.

Nicole was great and tour gave good historical context overview as we wandered the streets. The second half where we explored the local cuisine was fun also.

We really enjoyed this historical tour and food tasting in Ajaccio. Nicole had lots of interesting stories to tell, both of the past and present of Corsica, and communicated them well in English. She also clearly knew loads of people around Ajaccio, and took us to a couple great little spots for some fresh fruit, local cheese, and more. A great way to see the town and get a sense for the history and food of the island!

If you’re new to Ajaccio and looking for an introduction to the city, its history, the best places to eat, and things to do, Nicole is an incredible guide. Seeing Ajaccio through her eyes was a beautiful experience from start to finish. The tour was informative, vivid, and full of energy. I learned a lot, the pacing was perfect, and the food along the way was genuinely delightful.
