Join this tour to visit two of New Zealand’s most famous attractions, Hobbiton Movie Set and Waitomo Caves, in one easy day trip from Auckland. Our tour from 1 December 2023 will be the extended Hobbiton Experience (now 2.5 hours) where you can venture beyond the door to a fully themed Hobbit Hole interior. Immerse yourself in the interior with entry hall, bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, dining area, equipped bathroom, parlour and crackling fireplace. Be fascinated as the magical world of Hobbiton comes to life and take photos in front of your favourite places like the Hobbit Holes, the Shire and the Green Dragon Inn. Then journey to the World Famous Waitomo Glowworm Caves and be captivated by the thousands of magical glowworms twinkling in the Grottos, the stalactites and stalagmites as you glide silently through the cave by boat. Marvel at the stunning scenery en route as we journey off the motorways into the real hinterland of New Zealand. All admission fees and cafe lunch included.

We do not pick up from the suburbs of Auckland; only the Downtown CBD and 1 location in South Auckland for those staying near the airport-The Sebel Manukau Hotel, 16 Lakewood Court, Manukau

There is no photography allowed in the area of the Caves where the glowworms are as the glowworms react negatively to flashlight and will turn their lights off and they then take 2 hours to return to their full luminescence.

Tour leaves Auckland at 6:30am with everyone on board-the pickups occur across the CBD in the 25 minutes prior to that

Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes: Enjoy an extended Hobbiton Movie Set experience with our increased tour length time to a 2.5 hour tour.
Complimentary Drink: Included in our tour will be a complimentary ale, stout, apple cider or non-alcoholic ginger beer.
Start Time: The start time of the tour with everyone picked up across the CBD is at 6:30am. The pickups occur in the preceding 25 minutes

A great day out enjoying modern and ancient marvels!

This tour was a great day to combined seeing both modern and ancient marvels, which was especially convenient on a tight schedule like mine. It was an early start of the day, but well worth it. Hobbiton is on the list of places to go to many a LOTR fan and for good reason! This set has been wonderfully done as a permanent feature, with details abounding everywhere you look. My only critique is that I wish we had more time to admire everything, it’s quite a busy place with many groups of tourists coming through. I was however extremely pleased to be able to walk through and explore a Hobbit hole! This feature was truly amazing and I could’ve spent an hour walking through it and still found a new details to take. Our tour guide Chrissy was wonderful, and she brought so much enthusiasm and knowledge to our tour. She was very accommodating and professional throughout our tour. Waitomo cave was truly incredible - to say that it was breathtaking is an understatement. The opportunity to explore the ancient marvel was a gift. Our guide ‘Cup of tea’ was an absolute treat, he was funny, engaging, and knowledgeable, and quite a bit of charm to our tour. Being able to stand in near complete darkness in the quiet whilst in the cathedral of the cave was incredible. The glowworms themselves are truly an incredible part of nature, and floating along the Waitomo river beneath them was truly amazing - they look just like blue stars. Our tour guide Mike from Auckland scenic tours was fantastic - a true bit of Kiwi charm! He was knowledgeable, funny, and engaging throughout a long day. His ability to teach us about everything from places we passed on our drive to our tours to keeping us posted about the traffic, his energy throughout the day was truly appreciated! Mike was courteous and patient through the day and an excellent driver, safely getting us where we needed to go in a very timely fashion.

We travelled as a family with adult kids. The tour guides were so knowledgeable and always up for a discussion! Such a great experience!

Hobbiton was excellent even if you don't know about the films. Waitomo Glow worms were great. Day was made better by our tour guide Liam who was brilliant and informative. A great day out. Would recommend

We had a wonderful time on this tour! Mike was our guide and he was lovely. He was friendly, informative, and just an overall nice guy. You can tell that he takes pride in his job and loves telling people all about New Zealand. I wouldn’t hesitate to have another tour if Mike was the guide!
