Join this tour to visit two of New Zealand’s most famous attractions, Hobbiton Movie Set and Waitomo Caves, in one easy day trip from Auckland. Our tour is the new extended Hobbiton Experience (now 2.5 hours) where you can venture beyond the door to a fully themed Hobbit Hole interior. Immerse yourself in the interior with entry hall, bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, dining area, equipped bathroom, parlour and crackling fireplace. Be fascinated as the magical world of Hobbiton comes to life and take photos in front of your favourite places like the Hobbit Holes, the Shire and the Green Dragon Inn. Then journey to the World Famous Waitomo Glowworm Caves and be captivated by the thousands of magical glowworms twinkling in the Grottos, the stalactites and stalagmites as you glide silently through the cave by boat. Marvel at the stunning scenery en route as we journey off the motorways into the real hinterland of New Zealand. All admission fees and cafe lunch included.

There is no photography allowed in the area of the Caves where the glowworms are as the glowworms react negatively to flashlight and will turn their lights off and they then take 2 hours to return to their full luminescence.

Tour leaves Auckland at 6:30am with everyone on board-the pickups occur across the CBD in the 25 minutes prior to that

After leaving Auckland you will travel south over the Bombay Hills as you get elevated panoramic views of the Waikato Region and travel across the scenic Hauraki Plains to Matamata, the home of Hobbiton Movie Set.

Begin with a tour through the picturesque 1,250 acre sheep farm with spectacular views across the Kaimai Ranges. Your guide will escort you through the 10 acre site recounting fascinating details of how the Hobbiton Movie Set was created. Hobbit Holes, The Green Dragon Inn, The Mill and other structures can be viewed and you will see how this beautiful piece of Waikato farmland was transformed into the Shire from Middle-earth. Visit and explore inside the newly built fully themed Hobbit Hole on Bagshot Row. Complimentary specially brewed beverages are available at the Green Dragon Inn as you complete your tour. Afterwards, enjoy a very classic light “Kiwi” style lunch at the "Homestead" and get to share stories from Hobbiton and interact with your fellow travellers.

The tour was awesome! Mike was our guide. He was funny and made the tour very enjoyable. It is well worth the visit to hobbiton. The best part was being able to go inside a hobbit house and take pictures.
Excellent day - great trip for anybody to see more of NZ - caves were really unique and interesting

This was an awesome excursion - our guide Liam was fantastic, great guide, very educational and knowledgeable. He did a great job keeping us on time and where we needed to be. Was so seamless and easy. I’m not much a lord of the rings fan nor big on caves and things like that but I still loved this excursion. All of it was awesome and very unique.

This was a fun trip. We had been in Auckland for several days and enjoyed getting out into the country. Our guide picked us up at our hotel right on time. The Hobbiton set was interesting. I liked the story of the farmer whose farm was made into the set. Apparently they are continuing to add more tiny dwellings populated by small furniture, growing the site. We then took a quick stop at a farm to meet an ostrich named Olive. The guide demonstrated feeding her. Then on to the Waitomo Cave with the glowworms. It was interesting, not quite as glitzy as I expected but still interesting. We rode through the cave on a little boat for about ten minutes

This was a wonderful trip. There were only 11 of us on the trip which was wonderful. It's a long day but worth it. We stopped for a bathroom break and coffee about 1.5 hours into the trip. The tour of hobbiton was about 2 hours which was good amount of time. You get to explore one of the homes and touch things. Then you finish with a complimentary drink at the Green Dragon Inn. The lunch was at a cafe about 20 minutes from the caves. With lunch you had the choice of a main entree and dessert with a drink. They had something for everyone. The caves were very interesting and magical. I would say this trip is a must and the tour company was excellent.

Mike the tour guide and our bus driver really made the trip worthwhile. Speaks very well and attends to each one of us on the tour. Jacob from Hobbiton was a good guide too. Speaks multiple languages that can help . Overall a great experience

Amazing solo day trip to Hobbiton & Waitomo Caves from Auckland! Our driver Steven was fantastic — friendly, on time, and a great guide with awesome local tips. All the staff at both attractions were so warm and welcoming, which made travelling alone feel so easy. The Hobbiton set was pure magic, the glowworm caves were stunning, and the lunch was great. Perfect day out, 100% recommend!

Eleven hours for a tour of Hobbiton, the Waitomo Caves, and local honey sales at The Hive, was definitely worth the price and time. I would recommend being well-rested, wearing comfortable shoes, and anticipating the weather. We participated in May, so it was perfect weather. The drive was amazing, filled with pastures and rolling hills, including views of all types of animals (cows, lamb, and deer). What made the trip so incredible was our tour guide and driver Matt; he was extremely well versed on the history of the LOTR sets, the areas we drove through, and his pleasant demeanor made the whole party comfortable. Matt especially assisted us with an urgent family issue, where he did whatever he could to help us. We appreciated all he did. It made the trip one of the major highlight of our travels to Auckland. Thank you, Matt!

Had a fun filled day in Hobbiton with our movie set guide James who knew everything Hobbiton. The beer at the end was a great way to end the tour. Waitomo Caves were also a delight. Our over all guide Mike was fantastic too. Highly recommend this tour.

This was a brilliant day and we were well looked after by our guide Liam who an amiable informative and fun. The Hobbiton tour was awesome and although we had an early start this day was timed perfectly. The Waitomo cave are truly spectacular although the time there is short. Would highly recommend this trip.

Liam was an amazing tour guide. He was incredibly knowledgeable and was helpful throughout the whole day. He was pointing out NZ facts and history throughout the day and made a point to talk to and get to know everyone on the tour. He was even able to help us by suggesting places to checkout on both the north and South Island for the remainder of our trip. Both Hobbiton and the caves were amazing and we were so glad we booked this trip.
