Join this tour to visit two of New Zealand’s most famous attractions, Hobbiton Movie Set and Waitomo Caves, in one easy day trip from Auckland. Our tour is the new extended Hobbiton Experience (now 2.5 hours) where you can venture beyond the door to a fully themed Hobbit Hole interior. Immerse yourself in the interior with entry hall, bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, dining area, equipped bathroom, parlour and crackling fireplace. Be fascinated as the magical world of Hobbiton comes to life and take photos in front of your favourite places like the Hobbit Holes, the Shire and the Green Dragon Inn. Then journey to the World Famous Waitomo Glowworm Caves and be captivated by the thousands of magical glowworms twinkling in the Grottos, the stalactites and stalagmites as you glide silently through the cave by boat. Marvel at the stunning scenery en route as we journey off the motorways into the real hinterland of New Zealand. All admission fees and cafe lunch included.

There is no photography allowed in the area of the Caves where the glowworms are as the glowworms react negatively to flashlight and will turn their lights off and they then take 2 hours to return to their full luminescence.
Tour leaves Auckland at 6:30am with everyone on board-the pickups occur across the CBD in the 25 minutes prior to that

After leaving Auckland you will travel south over the Bombay Hills as you get elevated panoramic views of the Waikato Region and travel across the scenic Hauraki Plains to Matamata, the home of Hobbiton Movie Set.
Hobbiton Movie Set
Begin with a tour through the picturesque 1,250 acre sheep farm with spectacular views across the Kaimai Ranges. Your guide will escort you through the 10 acre site recounting fascinating details of how the Hobbiton Movie Set was created. Hobbit Holes, The Green Dragon Inn, The Mill and other structures can be viewed and you will see how this beautiful piece of Waikato farmland was transformed into the Shire from Middle-earth. Visit and explore inside the newly built fully themed Hobbit Hole on Bagshot Row. Complimentary specially brewed beverages are available at the Green Dragon Inn as you complete your tour. Afterwards, enjoy a very classic light “Kiwi” style lunch at the "Homestead" and get to share stories from Hobbiton and interact with your fellow travellers.

5.00Hobbiton is probably my favorite place in the whole world. The Glow worm cave was magical as well. Our guide, Mike, was informative, helpful and friendly. He kept us laughing while he expertly drove us in a comfortable van over lovely green rolling hills. Don’t miss this tour if you visit northern New Zealand.

5.00This tour was fantastic! The Hobbiton was much larger and better than I had anticipated. We even got to go inside one of the homes, and the attention to detail was incredible. We highly recommend this tour. The caves with the glow worms were okay, but we couldn’t take any photos. It was a short but pleasant experience, but the highlight was definitely Hobbiton.
Best day - couldn’t recommend enough!

We were so lucky to find tickets available that day — and we’re incredibly glad we did. It turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. A huge thank you to Mike, who was an absolutely fantastic guide and made the experience even more memorable. We truly can’t recommend this tour highly enough!

5.00We had an amazing day trip to Hobbiton Movie Set and Waitomo Glowworm Caves with our wonderful guide Mike from Auckland. Our trip was scheduled to start at 6:30 AM, but Mike arrived early at 5:59 AM with a big welcoming smile that immediately made us feel comfortable and excited for the day ahead. The drive to Hobbiton was over two hours long, with a convenient stop for coffee and restrooms along the way. Mike was knowledgeable, caring, friendly, and shared so much interesting information throughout the journey before we even reached Hobbiton. At both Hobbiton and Waitomo, we were introduced to local guides who were just as warm and professional as Mike. The Hobbiton experience was magical from the very beginning. We started with breathtaking views of the farm, filled with thousands of beautiful white sheep peacefully roaming the hills, looking almost picture-perfect. Walking through the movie set felt like stepping into another world. The tour ended with a choice of alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks at the Green Dragon Inn, which was a lovely touch. After the tour, Mike took us to lunch where we could choose from two meal options along with a beverage. You absolutely must try one of the famous New Zealand pies — it was delicious! The limestone caves and the boat ride through the glowing caves at Waitomo were unforgettable. Seeing the glowworms lighting up the cave ceiling was truly magical and unlike anything we had experienced before. Even after a long 12-hour day trip, our return journey was smooth and comfortable, and Mike dropped us back at our hotel with the same cheerful smile and positive energy he had in the morning. Thank you for such an incredible experience. We highly recommend this tour and especially our guide Mike for making the day so memorable!
