Who will catch the first fish? Ice fishing is a traditional Finnish experience the whole family can enjoy. Sit comfortably on a reindeer skin as your guide drills a hole through the thick ice right in front of you. Warm up with a hot drink by the fire while you wait for a bite from perch or other freshwater fish. Just picture it: you’re sitting above several meters of frozen water, surrounded by the quiet beauty of the Arctic wilderness. If you’re lucky and a fish is caught, your guide can prepare it into a simple, delicious snack right there on the ice.

5.00Our family had an unforgettable time on the "Ice Fishing Like a Finn" tour at Apukka Resort in Rovaniemi. It was a perfect way to connect with Finnish culture and enjoy the beautiful Arctic landscape. None of us had ice fished before, but our guide made it easy to jump right in. The girls had a blast drilling through the ice with hand augers, and we all took turns baiting our lines. Dustin was thrilled to catch the first fish, a perch, and we all cheered him on. Even though we didn’t all catch something, it didn’t matter. The experience itself was magical. Sitting on the frozen lake, enjoying reindeer sausage and roasting marshmallows over the fire, surrounded by peaceful snow and silence, was something we’ll never forget. We’d do it again in a heartbeat!

5.00Venturing onto the frozen expanse of the lake, my anticipation heightened as I embarked on my first ice fishing experience. With the ice thick enough to support our weight, after we choose our own fishing spot, we drilled holes and set up our gear, embracing the serene beauty of the wintry landscape. Our guides Maik & Song are very nice & thoughtful, berry juice, coffee and delicious sausage were provided respite from the biting cold. As we patiently waited, the rhythm of nature enveloped us. Although I didn't catch any fish at the end, it's still an unforgettable memory amidst the icy stillness. Thank you once again to Maik & Song, for your dedication & genuine warmth throughout the day, sharing a lot of knowledge and history about Lapland.

5.00I really loved this experience. You can feel like a real finn by cutting the ice and wait for fishing. At the end you can cook your own sausage while sitting on a reindeer fur around the fire on the ice lake.
