We booked a day tour from noon to night for Jebel Shams. The car was a 4WD and was really necessary for the journey. The driver Moaz was very helpful and well informed. He kept giving us pointers about culture and history. He also waited for us till it was dark and we could see the glimpse of the Milky way and brewed fresh coffee while we waited. Would say that the money paid is worth the experience.

I booked the Jabal Shames tour for one day, and the Muscat City (half-day) tour for the next day. Our guide was Abdullah. He picked us up, on time, at the hotel. After visiting Nizwa, we went up the long road to see the Grand Canyon. While visiting there, I had a bad fall-lots of blood, etc.. Abdullah came to my assistance, and rushed me back down the mountain to a medical clinic where I was treated. He then took me to a hospital in Nizwa where I had x-rays done, and was seen by an ophthalmologist. We then had to go to two different pharmacies to get prescription medications. Abdullah was very good at helping me all along the way with translations, transportation, etc, and we did not get back to our hotel until almost 8:00 pm. Without his assistance I don’t know how I would have made it. The next day, he took us on the City tour, and we got the lunch we had missed the previous day. In summary, Abdullah was an excellent guide, and treated us as guests not customers. And if we’re ever in Oman again, we’d like to have him as our guide.
