Kemeri National Park
The Great Ķemeri Bog is one of the main sulphur water producing bogs around Ķemeri. The bog land soil is poor in nutrients, acid and in many places sodden. Most trees are not able to endure the harsh conditions; therefore, there are only a few surviving species, like pine and birch; and the trees do not mature as they do in the forest. During the passage of migratory birds the bog is an excellent place for bird viewing. There are times when flocks of hundreds of birds – geese and cranes – can be seen flying over the bog land, the sound of their cries lingering in the air. The Great Ķemeri Bog Boardwalk will make your way easy into this otherwise hardly accessible land of moss, undersized pine trees, deep pools, tiny dark lakes and the flavour of wild rosemary. The boardwalk is built from wooden boards and it runs in two arcs. The shorter arc is going to take you as far as the first picturesque lake, while the longer arc will let you take a look at the landscape from the observation platform above.
Jomas Street
Jomas street - one of the oldest and central streets of Jūrmala with restaurants, summer terraces, hotels and cafés with live music. The name of the street in Latvian means parallel lines in the sand of dunes. Nowadays there is a tradition to celebrate the first Jūrmala’s pedestrian street - Jomas street festival.

I booked this day out of Riga with my partner but had to go solo on the day which I thought might have been less enjoyable but really was a great day out in nature! Vadim was my driver more than guide although he did impart quite a lot of info along the way. Excellent vehicle, super comfortable drive. Stopped at the museum about how Jūrmala first became a holiday destination which was interesting and took about 20 mins. Interesting then seeing the residential areas of Jurmala before heading to the great expanse of sandy beach. Enjoyed strolling here for a while, got lucky with a warm sunny day! Next up, an open air museum set in the beautiful pine forests that line the coastline, a restored fishing village which was the early activity in Jurmala and then walked the forest trails until I was ready to go on. The final destination of the tour was to the Kemeri Nature Reserve, vast area of bogs and I chose the longer loup around the bogs walking on a boardwalk throughout. Absolutely wonderful views in March but I can imagine so stunning to do in summer months when the bogs would also be covered in blueberries, cranberries and pretty flowers. Something to come back for! Easy journey back to my hotel. Thanks Vadim. This tour is a must for anyone who has time to explore beyond the city centre. Highly recommended
