Trango Adventure has a long track record of organizing Trekking in Pakistan. We have had groups successfully completed K2 and Gandogoro Trek on previous occasions. We designed our itinerary based on over 40 Years of experience, which is the best in terms of acclimatization, safety and enjoyment. It is our intention to keep to the day by day itinerary detailed below, although there might be some flexibility due to local conditions or other factors beyond our control. If this is the case the trek leader will do everything possible to work out the changes to the itinerary in order to minimize your inconvenience.

Adventure travel requires an open and flexible attitude. You may experience extreme conditions, unpredictable weather and last-minute changes to the itinerary beyond our control. The ability to work in team is an important aspect of all of our trips.

Skardu is the Capital of ancient Baltistan Kingdom so there is so much to see and explore. It is the getaway of many famous treks and Climbing expeditions, including K2 and Gandogoro Trek. In the morning you we will walk up to the remains of Kharpocho Fort (builded early 1700), which overlooks the town and has a great view of the Indus River. If you are into photography then this is a perfect location to take photos of Skaradu Town at sunrise or sunset. (we can arrange this for you). We will then walk to a small village, called Organic village, which grows all its crops organically. The afternoon is free to explore, perhaps you would like to take an optional jeep tour to Satpara Lake or explore the bazaar.

Today you will have an early start from Johla. The path runs for a while at the very edge of the river, before climbing to higher ground and allowing us excellent views of the impressive Paiju Peak. You have to negotiate a couple of streams today and depending on the melting of the glaciers above, you may have to ford these (sports sandals or old trainers useful). Paiju is a green oasis under the shadows of Paiju Peak (6,611m). From this camp you have the first views of the immense Baltoro Glacier, granite peaks of the Trango and Cathedral groups, and if the weather is clear then might see a glimpse of K2. Night stay at Paiju Camp.

Another early start today. From your camp at Paiju, a walk of approximately one hour brings you to the snout of the Baltoro Glacier. After viewing the outpouring of melt water from the ice we now climb up onto the back of this great beast. At this point the ice of the glacier is completely covered by rubble and rocks and although we are following a trail used by many expeditions, the going here can be quite tough. The trail undulated as we climb over the swells of the flowing glacier and it is fascinating to think that the stones underfoot could have come from the summit of Broad Peak, Gasherbrum or K2. Gradually we work our way across the glacier to its south side where we can use a path along lateral moraine. Heading roughly east we continue, sometimes on the moraine and sometimes down beside the glacier until we reach a side valley. At this point it may be possible to continue more or less directly by climbing up onto the glacier. Or, if the glacier is not easily accessible, we will turn off into the valley for approximately half an hour to reach a point where we can cross the meltwater stream (sandals or old trainers required). Finally reaching the camping place at Khorburtse (3,760m) we have sensational views of the Cathedral Towers, the Trango Group and the striking rock tower of Uli Biaho. A great day of trekking over difficult and mixed terrain.

Today is a short day but quite hard work as we walk up the undulating moraine and gaining height all the way. We continue east beside the Baltoro Glacier either along the lateral moraine or sometimes on the glacier itself, passing the ship-like prow of Great Trango and the isolated pillar of the ‘Nameless Tower’ to our next camp at Urdukas. It has truly sensational views of the Trango Towers to the west and directly opposite and almost a mile away across the valley, the vast rock walls of Cathedral Peak and Lobsang rise like ramparts above the glacier. This is a truly awesome place. We should reach here in time for a late lunch and the rest of the afternoon is free to camp, relax and soak up our fabulous Mountain vistas.

From many years of k2 and Gandogoro Trek experience we have learnt that taking a rest day at Urdukas has worked well, the advantages of spending an extra night here are very Helpful. It helps the acclimatization process and has proved to be more effective than a rest day at Paiju. This is the last campsite on grassy slopes off the main glacier, it also has facilities for washing and cleaning. There is a pleasant walk behind the campsite through grassy slopes full of alpine flowers. Climbing high & sleeping low is the best way to help the acclimatization process.

Today you will Trek to Concordia, it will take you through what must arguably be the most spectacular mountain scenery anywhere in the world! Our approach to Concordia continues along the heaving swells of the Baltoro Glacier as we pass Mustagh Tower (7284m). Ahead of us Gasherbrum IV (7925m) acts like a beacon drawing us on, whilst at some points on today’s walk we can also see Gasherbrum ll (8035m) which peeks out to the right of Gasherbrum lV. As we make our way up the Baltoro, the aptly named Broad Peak (8051m) comes into view above the ridge connecting Marble Peak and Crystal Peak on our left. K2 keeps itself hidden until the very moment we reach Concordia when suddenly its full height is revealed in sweeping lines that climb almost 4000 metres from the valley floor to the summit – a sight that will never be forgotten. Concordia is a wide area where glaciers coming down from K2 meet those from the Gasherbrums and Chogolisa. It is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular places on the planet and here you can stand within 24 kilometres of no fewer than four eight-thousanders and ten of the world’s thirty highest peaks! We make our camp at approximately 4500 metres on a moraine ridge surrounded on all side by jagged peaks including Gasherbrum IV, Mitre Peak, Chogolisa, Crystal Peak, Marble Peak, Baltoro Kangri, Broad Peak and K2.

Today you will leave the main trekking trail behind you, striking out on a far less travelled route which will take you along the Upper Baltoro, one of the glaciers coming down from Chogolisa that feed the huge glacial junction of Concordia. From Concordia there are several moraine ridges to scramble over to reach the Vigne Glacier which is flatter with fewer crevasses. After 5 – 7 hours of trekking along the Upper Baltoro towards the enormous bulk of Chogolisa at the head of the valley, you eventually reach the confluence of this glacier with the West Vigne Glacier which sweeps down from the base of the Gondogoro La. Here on the moraine beside the junction we make our home for the night at the place known locally as ‘Ali Camp’ (4800m). We would normally reach Ali Camp around mid-day or the early afternoon and after settling in, your trip leader will organise a skills session to practice the simple techniques of using a jumar to safeguard moving on fixed lines.

Today you will have an early start before the lights breaks in the morning. Probably around 2am, this is to minimise the risk of rockfall on the descent down the Hushe side of the pass. After fuelling up in the dining tent with breakfast, you will do crampons and harnesses and set off roped together onto the West Vigne Glacier. In the black, star-studded crisp night air you will make your way slowly over the sparkling glacier illuminated in pools of light from your head torches. This is a tough day but the views from the top of the pass really make it worthwhile. All four 8000’ers are visible in one direction and the other way looks down the Hushe Valley with the beautiful Leila Peak. Depending on the snow conditions it may be necessary to rope up for the crossing of the glacier before getting to the base of the pass. There are several sections with fixed ropes in place which can be used as a handrail. It is also best practice to clip a carabiner and sling onto the rope for safety. If the snow conditions are good and the trail has already been broken the pass can be ascended quite quickly (in about 4-5 hours). After approximately 4 hours of climbing from the West Vigne Glacier, with views opening up behind us, we reach the summit of the pass, an incredible and exhilarating feeling. The view from the top is breathtaking with 4 eight thousand metre peaks on view and close at hand, namely K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I and Gasherbrum II. The top of the pass is a broad shoulder and on the far side the ground drops precipitously away and we find ourselves looking down into the Gondogoro Valley. Directly opposite are the faces of the Trinity peaks but all eyes will be drawn to the beautiful spire of Laila Peak (6096) and then further down, following the curve of the glacier, we can see the perfect cone of Masherbrum II The Hushe side of the pass can be a tricky descent although there are fixed ropes in place at the top. The slope starts at a sustained 50 degrees on snow and finishes on loose scree towards the bottom. On reaching the green oasis of Khuspang, you can put your feet up and relax remembering the excitement of the day. Important note: the crossing of the Gondogoro La is dependent on good weather and conditions on the approach to the pass. If it is not possible to safely ascend the pass the group will walk back down the Baltoro glacier to Askole. We believe our itinerary maximise our chances of crossing the pass because: Everyone should be well acclimatised due to the gradual ascent on the trek and also from the careful monitoring of everyone’s acclimatisation by using the pulse odometer. We have two nights at Concordia and one night at Broad Peak Base Camp. We have two buffer days in case of delays or bad weather on Day 17 & 18 of the itinerary.

After a couple of minutes of easy walking we get onto the glacier where we pick our way across the moraine and ice, finally crossing the glacier up to the camping site to reach Dalsangpa which means ‘field of flowers’. There is a spectacular view of Masherbrum and the glacier cascading down from Masherbrum Pass. It is a beautiful walk to Shaicho as we pass yak pastures and see the first trees since Paiju. Shaicho is a small village. At this point we have returned to more benign altitudes where things grow and the trees actually become bigger than us as we continue the descent of the moraine to the valley bottom. We make our camp at Saitcho (3350m), a sandy area of sparse grasses beside the river at the junction of the Gondogoro and Charakusa valleys. Hushe also has some more modern houses, a shop, a school, a hotel and a trekkers’ campsite. Our vehicles will already be waiting for us, so we make an early start for the return drive to through the lush green Khapulu Vally. Before deciding which local company to travel with I checked a number of reviews, websites and reached out to some travelers who had been in Pakistan with Trango and given the overwhelming positive feedback, I decided to travel with them and I am truly happy of my choice. Before the travel: excellent assistance for all questions and support for the info to obtain the visa. Clear and consistent information and all questions answered in short response time. During the travel: their service is really all inclusive, no hidden costs, no surprises, from pick up at the airport to drop off for the return including ALL meals. The hotels they select were good, they also offer additional services like city tours and equipment rental. Although it might be easier to rent on site, I’d warn you the equipment is not state of the art. It’s functional and serves the purpose, but they have bulky sleeping bag, old style heavy harnesses, so I would strongly suggest to carry your own. Mattresses and jumar are good. The staff we had during the trip deserves an extra 5*. Professional, experienced and friendly. The chef porter was taking such good care of our little group almost as if we were good friends, all the porters were super friendly and helpful, the cook and help cook went above and beyond. Amazing how they managed to always get incredibly good quality food ready with the little means they had. Hot water was always available. Our guide was very friendly and helpful but we missed more details on what we were visiting, some history and what to expect especially for the Gondogoro La passing. Compared to other companies which charge more, going in parallel to us, I honestly did not see a difference and felt the service we got was excellent. I guess bigger companies play more on things like all tents are identical and they give you more gimmicks but that’s really not a reason to charge that much more! Also camping spots are the same for everyone. Trango is fantastic value for the money you pay and they treat you like valued customers and not numbers. Notes on the trek: you do need to be really fit. We were lucky as no one of us got really stomach sick, which seems to be exceptional and I attribute this to the care in food. The landscapes are stunning, a sort of a dream and the experience is authentic, you have to be ready to take 14 nights in a tent at altitude with a variety of weather. But for nature and mountain wilderness (well.. except the crowded camps) this is a blessing! If you can physically afford it, do the Gondogoro La pass as you’ll see another marvelous valley and it is less monotonous than going back the same way. Phones have NO line. Locals could only use them in Askole and Concordia.it seems agencies do NOT have satellites (maybe limitations are there as there are military areas). They find ways to communicate as there’s constant back and forth and everyone knows everyone else, but don’t rely on satellite. In the end I can only highly recommend Trango. We came as customers, we left with new friends.

I was with Ernie A group from Calgary Canada and I need to say that everything He saying regarding the guides,[ IT'S NOT TRUE ] the guide and assistant guide were excellent and did a super great Job and for myself I couldn't ask for better, unfortunately if your body CAN NOT handle this type of trekking and you are very picky about everything they do, you should not blame the guides, [ Iqbal, Habib, and the rest of the staff I give them 10 out of 10 ] This is a demanding trek and if you are NOT physically fit you will have issues . Talking about food yes it was almost the same every day, but the cooks did an excellent job considering the conditions and the equipment they had .

While exploring the possible companies that offer the K2 Base Camp Gondogoro La trek, Trango Adventures was the most responsive. The management, guide, kitchen staff, and porters did their best to provide us excellent services and for us to have epic experiences during the whole duration of the trek. Moreover, as a female traveler, I felt safe all throughout the trek. I appreciate how the locals, including our crews, are respectful of our boundaries. I was part of a small but diverse group from different countries. The local crews played a crucial role in reaching our goal. We built rapports as we shared stories (despite the language barrier) and snacks with them. Sulaiman, the head porter, would always readily share his dried apricots and hard bread with us. Meanwhile, seeing all the majestic mountains, particularly K2 and Broad Peak, was truly breathtaking. Sleeping on a glacier was also a first time for most of us. Personally, crossing the Gondogoro Pass plus the descent was the most difficult. In spite of this, I feel that I was properly taken care of and guided by the crew and the group. Another highlight of the trip was the interactions with the hardcore mountaineers who have climbed those eight-thousanders. Given the opportunity that I could explore more of Northern Pakistan, I would definitely contact Trango Adventures again.🙂

I did the K2 & Gondogoro La Pass trek with Trangoadventures and I am very satisfied with it. The organization was excellent from start to finish, with a guide and very friendly and professional porters. The cuisine was correct given the difficult conditions at high altitude. The trek itself is demanding, with often difficult and technical terrain, including the descent of the Gondogoro La which is very steep and requires fixed ropes. This trek is clearly aimed at people who are well prepared physically and have good knowledge in the mountains (use of the Jumar, harness, lanyard, rappelling, etc.). An unforgettable experience for those looking for a real challenge in the high mountains in a magnificent setting.

Our 3-week trip to Pakistan doing the K2 Base Camp and Gondogoro La Pass with Trango Adventures was nothing short of exceptional. The agency provided a high standard of service, covering every detail and the trip was extremely well organized. Highlights: Outstanding food: The meals were fantastic throughout the trek, far exceeding our expectations for such a remote journey. We got 3 hot meals every day, even for lunch in the middle of the glacier. Guides: Our Guide Essa and High Altitude Guide Ali was not only well-informed but also incredibly warm and attentive. They shared a wealth of knowledge about the region and looked out for everyone on the team. Porters and Cooking Team: The entire team including Porters, Cooking Team, Mule Porters were unbelievably welcoming and kind. It felt like being surrounded by friends rather than just a hired crew. Everyone was so hardworking and without them these kind of treks wouldn`t work at all. Quality Equipment: The equipment provided, especially the tents, was in excellent condition, which made a huge difference in comfort along the route. Attention to Dietary Needs: I need to eat gluten free and the guide along with the cooking team made sure this was taken into account for every meal, which I really appreciated. Weather and Season: We had incredible luck with the weather, and since we traveled out of season, it added a real sense of adventure. We were the first group to cross Gondogoro La so late in the season, which added a unique challenge - alpine experience certainly helped here. (and the experience and determination of the guides and Porters) Tips for Future Travelers: - Be sure to understand tipping practices and bring enough local currency, as it wasn`t always clear when and how much to tip. Trango Adventures was very transparent in advising us on this (we should have asked before leaving on the trek) and our guide kindly helped us out when we ran low on rupees. - We highly recommend being physically fit and well-trained to fully enjoy the experience. While the crew takes excellent care of you, you will be in the wilderness for 14 days at high altitude. Weather conditions can change really quickly out there and besides the tents and camps there are no shelters like Teahouses/sheds like on other famous treks (like Everest Base Camp). This adds to the unique sense of adventure. However the trails are rugged, objective risks like rockfalls/weather changes exist and we don't suggest this trek for beginners without any mountain experience. Conclusion: This was a trip we will never forget - a guided adventure through one of the world's most breathtaking and remote landscapes, with a fantastic agency and genuinely wonderful people. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an unforgettable experience in Pakistan! Thank you Trango Adventures for this experience!! We will be back :)

This is a review of a non-K2 trip I did with Trango: I went with Trango Adventures on a road tour of the Hunza Valley and a trek to the Nanga Parbat basecamp. I had a wonderful time! All Trango staff were responsive, encouraging, helpful. A big Heads up for Shahid (email correspondence and booking) and Shabir (supervisor) - both were extremely helpful. My guide was Haiji ... excellent, caring, concerned, engaging man. The vistas, the mountains, the glaciers, the day hikes, the trek were stupendous. This trip involves the use of mountain guesthouses of varying quality, but none were problematic for me; they were better than some in Nepal.

I and my friends went to trek on K2BC and Gondogoro La in July-August 2023. We are from Thailand. One man did trekking many years ago but it's my first time in Pakistan and so do the other two girls. Before going, I felt a little scared due to all bad news of Pakistan. I didn't feel safe as a woman to go trekking in Pakistan. Surprisingly, I and my friends felt totally comfortable with friendship of Pakistani from the first day to the end of the trip. We felt like home, like trekking with brotherhood, like family members. Trango adventure provides us genuine service and frank friendship. The staff are all kind and caring. In addition to the staff in the trip, Pakistani people whom we met along the way were excited to greet us. I was surprised that many Pakistani girls came to ask for taking photo with me and gave me some snack or gift. I totally impressed how safe and sincere here. The nature of Baltoro glacier is unique and magnificent. it's so much different from Nepal and Indian Himalaya where I normally go trekking every year. Definitely, I will come back for trekking in Pakistan and with service of Trango adventure. Highly recommend.
