Look for the mighty Sperm Whales that live in these waters along with Dusky Dolphins, New Zealand Fur Seals and Seabirds. Admire breathtaking views of the snow-capped Kaikoura Ranges during your free time in Kaikoura's township and visit a seal colony on land. Wrap up the day with a scenic drive back to Christchurch and a wine tasting at a vineyard in North Canterbury (time permitting). Your experienced guide shares informative commentary throughout the day on this fun and fascinating tour.

Minimum numbers apply. There is a possibility of cancellation after confirmation, if there are not enough passengers to meet requirements. In the event of this occurring, you will be offered an alternative or full refund.
Please note, infants under 3 years of age may not join the cruises but may travel on the light aircraft tours
Once the tour has commenced only the unused portion of the tour will be refunded should the boats not sail or the planes not fly.
If due to whale sightings or weather conditions the boat offers a partial refund, this refund will be passed on to our customers.
If whale watch is undertaken by light aircraft and no whales are seen, no refund applies.
A decision is made at 6:30am each day, based on local weather conditions, as to whether the tour will depart Christchurch or be canceled. If the tour is cancelled, clients are notified by 7:15am and no cancellation fees are charged. If the tour travels to Kaikoura and the whale watch cruises are canceled, whale watch plane tours are offered as an alternative. If clients do not wish to fly, or the plane tours are also canceled, a cash refund of NZD 120.00 per adult is given. Refund is issued on the day of the tour by the tour operator in Christchurch.
As the wineries close at 5pm daily and on selected public holidays, a stop may not be possible. On these occasions no refund is applicable.

5.00Our guide Terry was a very informative and fun. He had fun energy and overall the day was great. We had perfect weather, great captain on the boat who got us 3 great views of sperm whales, guide on boat was very knowledgeable. Overall a great trip from Christchurch.

5.00We could see two whales and many dolphins! I think we can do a lot of commentary on the boat and see the shutter chance because it will tell us if the whale is nearby◎ The pickup in Christchurch was very smooth and the bus driver was very friendly! I was very happy to see so many spots where fur seals were resting on the way back from Kaikoura to Christchurch. I thought if it was a big ship, I wouldn't have to worry about seasickness, but the waves were big and I got quite seasick! So if you're a seasick type, you should consider it carefully (it depends on the time and weather).

5.00If I can rate this 6 stars, of 5, I will. Pickup by Stephanie and Carl was on time and they were warm and personable. Friendly and engaging, they took good care of everyone (we were a small group of six pax) throughout the day. The cruise was fantastic too. The sea crew provided a great commentary to whales. We saw a sperm whale, which was amazing. Then an unexpected appearance by a humpback, which was just incredible. We also saw dolphins and albatrosses. A most wonderful experience. Lastly, I'd like to commend Leisure Tours for being very responsive to my numerous queries prior to the tour.

5.00My friend and I had a great time with Pete from Leisure Tours. Pete is a very nice, polite and knowledgeable tour guide, driver and hosted us in total six ppl well. Tour is well organized and we enjoyed our time in Kaikoura.

5.00We had a wonderful experience with our driver/guide, Jude. She picked us up on time and filled us in on information about the places we passed by. She surely went the extra mile to make sure we were comfortable. We even stopped at one point of the journey to see some seals resting on rocks. It was amazing to see them up close. During the whale watch, We saw humpback whales, dolphins and albatross. But it did take some time to see the whales, as they are quite unpredictable. I'd like to thank Jude once again for driving for long hours and her great hospitality.

1.00Trip cancelled. Message sent only through the trip advisor app which I didn’t get until 10mins after pick up time as I was on a long tour the day before. Not even a text or email. Pretty poor form. Today was my only day I could do this tour. What was the most disappointing it was due to minimum head count not met on a day with perfect weather. One star due to poor communication.

5.00This was the most unbelievable tour. We were able to see a Sperm and Humpback whale. The captain didn’t give up until we saw them. Our tour guide Scotty was great. Took us to a beautiful fur seal colony. And to wrap it up, a winery for some end of the day wine tasting. He was also very knowledgeable about NZ.
