Kathmandu Durbar Square
This complex of palaces, courtyards and temples, built between the 12th and 18th centuries, used to be the seat of the ancient Malla kings of Kathmandu. There are also three museums inside the palace building.
You can watch over the valley from the top of a hillock on its western side. Swoyambhu is also known as Samhengu and the Monkey temple because of the countless monkeys living in the premises.

5.00I did a day tour of kathmandu with kedar from ace and he was amazing!!!! He had such a vibrant personality and was so enthusiastic to tell us the history of the area. He answered any and all questions we had about the history, architecture, and religion. He had all tickets for my group ready to go at every site, so we had an easy transition to and from places with our Ace driver ready as well. He allowed us to stay in some locations longer if we wanted to and was happy to see us enjoying and learning about nepal culture. I would recommend kedar if you want to explore kathmandu and learn about the rich culture!

5.00We did this as an add on to the Everest base camp trek and were very happy. It was a nice way to hit the highlights of Kathmandu and not have to worry about tickets or driving around in an unfamiliar environment. Additionally, our tour guide was very knowledgeable and use to be the head of the Nepalese tour guide association. We really enjoyed the selection of places and were glad we did this!

5.00Really enjoyed this informative trip with our guide, Dil. He is so knowledgeable about Nepal’s history and culture, Buddhism, Hinduism, the Newari people, and so much more. We visited the BoudhanathTemple (visited 2 monasteries there and an art school where we saw the creation of beautiful mandala paintings). Then went to Pashupatinath- saw many smaller Shiva temples and funerals occurring on the banks of the Bagmati River. Only Hindus can enter main temple. Last stop Bhaktapur Durbar Square: you could spend a week there, but we explored as much as we could in an afternoon. We had already visited the Monkey Temple, so we had more time at Bhaktapur. Many beautiful temples and palaces. Also had a lovely lunch (not included, but inexpensive) at a rooftop restaurant overlooking the square. If you have a day in Kathmandu, book this tour with Ace and ask for Dil!

5.00We had an excellent day exploring historical sites in Kathmandu with our guide Dil. This tour was organized by ACE the Himalaya. The guide was very knowledgeable, experienced and professional. We would highly recommend this tour and this guide.
