Kaunas is like a younger brother of Vilnius. Sometimes it seems to be in the shadows of the capital. But make no mistake - this is a superficial paradigm – Kaunas is a very vivid both in history and now:culture is thriving, and it’s always been the innovator vs Vilnius – same 100 years ago – same it is now. See the city and some top sights around, that are usually skipped by others.

RumsiskiU Entografinis Muziejus
Your guide will pick you from Vilnius with a comfortable car/minibus and will head to Kaunas. In about an hour you will arrive to Rumsiskes Open air museum that has all authentic countryside region houses built in one place. It is one of the largest Europe’s open air museums where you will learn about authentic architecture and folk tradition of different Lithuanian regions between 18 and 20th centuries. Later you will continue driving to Kaunas, a city that was a temporary capital while Vilnius was under the Polish rule between the World Wars.

First, Marius, our guide was very flexible and accommodating. We arrived on a rainy Sunday and most of the places around Kaunas were close, but the visit was very interesting getting to know the importance of the city in the history of the country (it was the capital city for some time), and we found a superb story about the history of basketball. Afterwards, we had lunch at a restaurant that specializes in local food, great experience. On the way back from this tour, there is a stop at Rumsiskes, an open air museum with authentic country side houses, including a bunker (check it out on your visit). Be prepared for a long and beautiful walk. It's a full day experience worth doing.
