•1H 2026: 5/5 (Excellent). We had the most excellent evening with Sangbong (James) and Seongjin (Chef) who made our cooking experience a unique part of our Seoul visit. Their attention to detail and friendliness made us feel at home, not to mention the conducive and well-maintained kitchen and dining setup. I highly recommend any visitors to drop James a message and hear his advice on how to make their trip a special one, as he's an experienced guide too.

James and Seongjin were absolutely amazing! During our Harvard Asia meet-up in Seoul, I suggested this cooking experience to my classmates, and it turned out to be the perfect choice. We are a group of Harvard Graduate Students from the International Education Policy and Management program, studying online as a global cohort. This was our very first in-person meet-up, and we couldn’t have chosen a better activity. When we arrived at Songpanaru Station, we were warmly welcomed by James. He was incredibly friendly, enthusiastic, and engaging and he was always smiling and making sure everyone felt comfortable and included. When we arrived at the kitchen, the space was spacious, cozy, and very homey. It very much like an open space for everyone to relax and have fun. Chef Seongjin also greeted us when we arrived, and although he primarily spoke Korean, James did an excellent job translating everything clearly and seamlessly. Before we began cooking, they explained the dishes we would be preparing. Chef Seongjin first demonstrated each dish in detail and shared the history and cultural background behind the meals, which added so much depth to the experience. You don't often get a historical lesson when cooking, so this was an added bonus. We then split into groups and began cooking as a group we roled played as if we were competing in a cooking show. The class was very hands-on, allowing us to immediately apply what we learned. As graduate students pursuing a Master’s in Education, we all agreed that learning is most meaningful when it is experiential, and James and Seongjin truly embodied this approach. We felt their passion as instructors. After cooking, we shared our meal together, and we were discussion how this activity became one of the most memorable parts of our Asia meet-up. Eating together, we created a space for connection and conversation, and we found out James also spoke Chinese. My classmates were shocked and they ended up having a conversationin Chinese with him as well. Additionally, since our cohort is fully online, this was a rare and special opportunity to bond in person. Our group included classmates from the Philippines, Singapore, Guam, Vietnam, South Korea, and China, and we loved exchanging stories and perspectives with our hosts. We all agreed that this cooking class was one of the highlights of our Asia meet-up and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Korea. A couple of our friends were already planning a trip to Korea and we planned to recommend this activity to them. The price is also very reasonable and often, many similar experiences easily cost over $100. During our conversation, we as Harvard students even suggested an additional innovative idea by pairing the cooking class with a guided market visit led by the chef. This would allow participants to learn how to select ingredients and understand what to buy or not buy from a professional chef’s perspective. This would be an especially valuable experience for passionate or aspiring cooks. Overall, we highly recommend this activity. Don’t miss out! Honestly, it’s only offered once per week, and you definitely won’t regret it. And as a fun bonus, our female classmates couldn’t help but mention that both James and Seongjin are very much eye candy .

This was an awesome experience to go on. The class is conducted in English or with translation from Korean to English via the host. It started out with a background with some history on Korean cooking and culture and then it was time to cook. Everything for the class is supplied for you. All the recipes were pretty straightforward and easy enough for even beginners to do. You are also not alone so you will have plenty of help from the instructors and your fellow attendees. Best of all you get to eat what you and others cook. The class ends with you being able to talk and get to know others. I hope to replicate what I learned from the class later on back at home.

First time joining a cooking class in Korea and it was such an amazing experience. There was a good amount of people but not too many that it still feels intimate, like a friends get together. It was fun making dishes with other people and learning from a seasoned chef. I've already made kimbap now that I'm back home. I think this is a great way to learn about Korean food culture and something different from the typical touristy things one does in Korea. If you have some time, definitely spend a night with these folks!

I had a wonderful time at the cooking class. We made Bibimbap and Japchae. I learned many skills from the chef that I didn’t know before. It was so helpful! Not only did we cook, but we also learned about the history of Korean cuisine and Michelin-starred restaurants. You’ll get some great photos during the cooking process, which I really liked.
