We are going to show you how to make pierogi like a pro. At the beginning, you’ll go shopping at the bustling market, and you will get from your guide all the insider info on the fresh vegetables and produce for sale along the way. Your guide will even be able to teach you some expressions in Polish if you wish so that you can barter at the market like a true Krakow native! Next on this Krakow tour, you’ll be taken to a family home, where you’ll be able to put all that delicious fresh produce to use and get some cooking lessons from Krakow locals. You’ll be taught how to make a pierogi, a typical Polish dish (kind of like a dumpling). Whilst you’re cooking you’ll have the chance to ask all the questions about Poland you have always had. Finally, you’ll be able to enjoy the fruits of your labour and tuck into all the Krakow food you’ve been making. As you’ll be eating with a Polish family, this will also be your chance to ask all those questions you have about Polish culture, and your hosts will be very happy to teach you all about their country. Eat, drink, and be merry – Krakow style!

We participated in a small group pierogi making class in Krakow. It was an amazing day and overall experience ! Our pierogi teacher was the best. She took us to the local market where we purchased the ingredients, she taught us the words in polish to buy the items from the vendors - very fun and unique. We felt like locals for a while. We then went to her private home where we made the pierogis. All the while , enjoying lovely appetizers and drinks. It was special day and Magdalena made it a highlight of our trip to Poland.

Fantastic culinary experienced with Magdalena! I can't say enough how much I enjoyed my pierogi cooking class with Magdalena. She took me on a lovely tour through the market where I attempted some Polish, then back to her beautiful flat not far from the old town. She was a great teacher and gave me a lot of information about Polish food and culture. At the end she was even kind enough to package up the left over pierogi so I could take it with me to snack on at the airport and helped me get an Uber in time to make it to my afternoon tour. Don't think twice. Book this experience. It will be highlight of your trip!

This was such an unexpected, fun experience. With our Rick Steves Tour, we went in small groups to the market to shop, then took the tram to Dominika's flat to cook pierogis. The experience was so much fun, having her open her home to us and cook a traditional Polish dish. The market was fun, and Dominika explained (and coached us) thru the process. One of the highlights of our Poland Trip.

Kasia was a wonderful guide. We all went to the local market, where she helped us with pronunciations of the ingredients we were buying, so we could order them successfully. We went to her home, a smart apartment with a small kitchen, outdoor deck and plenty of space for us all. Her fluffy cat welcomed us with friendly indifference. With her help we diced, chopped, mixed, mashed, rolled and formed pierogi. Delicious! Kasia was a delight, so fun open and friendly. We left feeling like old friends. Recommended!

Magdalena was the sweetest host ever! We enjoyed this cooking class very much! Each time my family and I go on vacation we always take a cooking class and this one was definitely one of our favorites! From being able to practice speaking polish to vendors at the local market to sitting down at the table sharing stories while eating the most delicious pierogies, you get to experience it all!

On May 12, 2026, Jamilah and Herb, members of a Rick Steves Poland Tour, met Anna in front of the Hotel Gródek. Tomasz, one of our guides, introduced us to Anna and immediately we departed for her apartment. As we walked to Anna's apartment on the northside of Kraków, she introduced us to sites that had been mentioned by Tomasz to visit if we had a chance during our tour. Anna pointed out the beautiful Juliusz Słowacki Theatre, the surviving medieval fortifications along Pijarska Street and The Barbican. Just beyond these sites, we entered a large open air market where we purchased the items required to make pierogi. Anna seemed to know every vendor in the market. It was a pleasure to meet the people responsible for producing the food we were going to cook and eat. After boarding a number 24 bus, we traveled for a few minutes until we got off the bus and were invited into Anna’s apartment. Before we began to prepare and cook the pierogi, Anna offered us a taste of a local sausage, local smoked cheese, her fermented cucumbers and a local beer. While we enjoyed our snack, Anna talked about herself and her family. Jamilah and I were happy with this aspect of our lesson. Then it was time to prepare, cook and enjoy our homemade pierogi. Anna had prepped some items, in particular, she had peeled the potatoes, cut them into smaller pieces, salted and boiled them. She had also cut the onions, salted and fried them. Together we made the pierogi dough. Anna poured flour onto a large flat wooden kitchen board and created a little bowl in the middle. She mixed in a fresh egg, a little oil and salt and slowly added hot water to the flour, slowly blending the ingredients with her hands and a flat knife until the mixture started to look like dough. Jamilah and I assisted in kneading the dough, adding extra flour as needed to achieve the proper smoothness and elasticity. At the right moment, we covered the dough with a bowl and let it rest for a while. During the resting period, we mashed the boiled potatoes, mixed them in a bowl with the fried onions, soft cheese from the market and salt and pepper. Then we took the dough and spread it over the wooden kitchen board until the dough was just the right thickness. Anna used a drinking glass to create about 30 round pierogi shells. She rolled up the ‘extra dough’ and put it into a bowl. We picked up the pierogi shells and placed them on the wooden kitchen board. Together we sat at a small table filling the pierogi shells, one at a time. As we all shared in this task, Anna told us about her life in Poland as she had done during our earlier preparation of the pierogi. After we completed the task of making the pierogi, we boiled a few at a time in a large pot until they floated to the surface. Each pierogi was removed from the boiling water, placed carefully on a dinner plate and covered with the rest of the fried onions. Together we ate all the pierogi while sipping on a local beer. Jamilah and I remarked to Anna on how much better these pierogi tasted compared to the ones we had eaten in a restaurant or a hotel. Overall, we had a wonderful time cooking with Anna. Her stories and her pierogi cooking skills were exceptional. As Jamilah and I rode back to the hotel in a taxi, Jamilah and I knew this was one of the best experiences we had during our visit to Poland.

This tour was a highlight of our trip to Poland. Anna Maria was our host and she was a delight. We started the tour by going to a local large market to get some of the ingredients needed for our pierogies. Anna took us to her home, which was very charming and graciously began instructing us on our pierogi making tasks. We toasted our success with a beer and a delicious meal. I highly recommend!

We had an amazing afternoon with Dominika. First a trip to the local market, where we were coached to speak Polish and interact with the local vendors. Then on to her delightful home to learn how to cook pierogi from scratch – so much better than even the great restaurants in Kraków!

My husband, our cousin, and I had the pleasure of shopping for the pierogi ingredients in the market and then went to Patricia's gracious home to prepare the dish under her gentle and thorough tutelage. She provided us with a wealth of insights and perspective, and then we enjoyed the fruit of our labors together. This was a highlight of our visit to Poland. We so appreciated her patience, her intelligence, and her kindness to us.
