kunanyi/Mt Wellington Explorer Bus is the official shuttle bus for kunanyi / Mount Wellington. Join us as we travel 1270 metres above sea level to experience spectacular views over Hobart and southern Tasmania. The 2.5 hr return tour includes 30 minutes to take in the views from the lookouts and observation shelter at the summit. Buses depart daily from Hobart’s waterfront.
OR, if you’re looking for a little more adventure, you have the option to hop-on and hop-off at 5 Wellington Park bus stops where you’ll find a variety of alpine walking tracks to explore. Enjoy kunanyi / Mount Wellington at your own pace, then hop-on a later bus to return to Hobart.
kunanyi/Mt Wellington Explorer Bus is the only tour company with exclusive access to kunanyi / Mount Wellington when Pinnacle Road is closed due to snow.
Tour includes informative local guide commentary and a complimentary bushwalking map. Bus pass valid all day.
Buses are wheelchair accessible and can carry mountain bikes.

Fern Tree Playground
Optional hop-off at Fern Tree Park bus stop. A sheltered grassy area with toilets, picnic areas, wood-fired barbeques and children’s play equipment. The starting point for shaded walks through fern gullies and alongside bubbling streams. Take the Pipeline Track to Silver Falls (40-min return), which follows the route of the water pipeline supplying some of Hobart’s water. A short, easy walk, also suitable for mountain bikes. Visit Fern Tree Tavern for lunch, coffee and cake or a refreshing cold beverage. Open Tuesday to Sunday.
Optional hop-off at The Springs bus stop. A level picnic area with toilets, picnic tables, gas-fired barbeques and the starting point for a range of walking tracks and mountain bike trails on the eastern foothills of kunanyi/Mt Wellington. Take the Lenah Valley Track to Sphinx Rock (45-min return), great views of the Organ Pipes above and Hobart and the River Derwent below. A short, easy walk through eucalypt forest to the impressive sandstone rock platform of Sphinx Rock (caution: 10 metre cliff drop). Visit Lost Freight Cafe for hot drinks, light meals and snacks. Open 7 days.

Excellent way to see the city, with lots of information about the city

5.00This tour was a great way to see the city of Dunedin and our bus driver was very entertaining and provided lots of interesting information about the city and it's history and geography. The change in the geography and tree growth was amazing as we took the tight and windy road up to the summit, as was the drivers ability to negotiate the road and avoid the oncoming traffic.The pickup point was easily walk-able from our ship. Dress warmly as it is very cold and windy at the summit but the views are worth it. Our bus driver recommended a great seafood diner (Fish Frenzy) for lunch after the tour was over.

5.00Paul was a fabulous guide with expert commentary, a sense of humour and excellent driving skills both up and down the mountain. We also liked his recommendations for places to eat and attractions to visit. Though the weather didn’t allow us to see Hobart from the summit, we would recommend this tour. It is surreal at the top. Even saw a tiger snake on the way down.

5.00Our driver, Christian, was one of the kindest humans I have yet to meet. At no time did he make the older folks with mobility issues feel badly. He loves the mountain and it showed. Even though the clouds were pervasive, he made the best of it and showed us everything in his power to make our trip memorable. If you get Chistian for your driver, count yourself lucky. Apparently, he's usually maintaining the busses. 😁 PS. Bring a warm coat & stocking cap. Even in February it was very cold at the top.

5.00This was an enjoyable trip from Hobart to Mt Wellington with Tony who was an entertaining and knowledgeable guide. Although there was cloud at the top of the mountain we were fortunate it cleared briefly just before we left to return to Hobart. Lovely views and ethereal atmosphere in the cloud. The wildflowers were beautiful at this time - February. Thank you.

5.00We took the bus Sunday morning at 11am. 2.5 hour tour, The Driver was great took great care up & down the mountain. With local knowledge added along the way. Its cold on top , we even got some sleet. but worth it - View. Highly recommend .

5.00Super option for transport up Mt. Wellington! We hopped off once we were headed back down the mountain to do some hiking on one of many trail options and finished up at one of their designated stops. Hopped right back on and were delivered right back to the harbor! Great way for cruise passengers to get off the beaten path!

5.00Tony was our driver and he was absolutely awesome. Great commentary and knowledge...loves a good Dad joke!!! Took great care getting us up and down the mountain whilst providing insightful information. Would highly recommend this tour.
