This bus tour lets guest enjoy quick access to the popular scenic Sagano trolley train as well as an exciting river descent down the Hozugawa river in Kyoto, both of which are popular attractions in high demand and perfect for groups, families, and individuals who have limited time in Kyoto.

These activities allow guests to appreciate the natural scenery of Kyoto's four seasons at any time of the year from both the train and boat. From cherry blossoms in spring, lush greenery in summer, the changing leaves of autumn, or the snowy fields in winter, this tour will provide guests with unforgettable experiences and imagery.

After the tour, guests will have time to explore the Arashiyama bamboo grove and surrounding area. Visit local souvenir and snack shops at this iconic Kyoto locale before getting back on the bus to head back to Kyoto Station.

Children up to 5 years old who are under 80cm tall do not require a seat and so can participate for free.

Children over 5 years old under 80cm will not be able to participate in the Hozugawa riverboat ride

Depending on river conditions the Hozugawa boat ride may be cancelled. Alternate activities will be provided instead.

We offer GPS-enabled multilingual audio guidance, available in English, Chinese and Korean.

Please note that a Japanese-speaking guide will accompany the tour and you will be sharing the ride with Japanese tourists.

The boarding ticket you receive also serves as an entry pass for major sightseeing locations. Please keep it safe until the end of the tour, as lost tickets cannot be reissued. Boarding tickets can be exchanged starting from three days prior to your boarding date.

Please make your own way to the bus terminal. The bus will depart on time, and late arrivals will not be permitted to join the tour with no exceptions (no refunds will be issued.)

Please arrive at least 20 minutes prior to departure time for prompt boarding (8:40am)

At each sightseeing spot, the guide will display the return time before departure for the next stop. Please be sure to confirm it and return to the bus on time. If you do not follow the instructions, the bus will depart for the next destination without waiting.

In the event that the Hozugawa River descent is canceled due to bad weather, the tour will be conducted with an alternative route. A refund for the Hozugawa River descent will also be issued on-site.

1. The tour encompasses three sites in one day. 2. We got an email with directions to the ticket booth at the Kyoto Station, but construction barriers blocked the view and we had a difficult time finding the location. 3. The Sagano railway, the Hozugawa boat ride and the Arashiyama bamboo forest were a combination of venues that were easily accessed through the tour . 4. The Hozugawa boat tour was the highlight in our opinion. The ride had three crew members who ensured our safety but also provided jokes and humor to entertain us during the 1.5 hour boat ride. I wish I had taken their names but we did take some photos so they can be recognized for a job well done. 5. We did miss the fall foliage season which is one of highlights of the river ride. Take this tour to see all three sites. It did not disappoint us.

The tour is in Japanese but you will receive an audio tour guide in the language of your choice, for us it worked perfectly and we had no problems. Finding the bus ticket exchange was a little tricky but we arrived early enough to figure it out. The train ride was enjoyable and there were some great views of the river. The little boats were waiting after a short bus ride from the station to the river and we had a great time, the boat handlers were a delight and entertaining, they did there utmost best to use English to translate their remarks and some helpful other passengers filled in the blanks:) overall we had a wonderful time and recommend this tour gladly.

This tour was such a great experience! Our guide (I wish I remembered her name!) was awesome — she made sure everyone stayed together, gave clear directions, and kept everything organized throughout the day. The river ride was beautiful and relaxing, and the Sagano train offered some amazing scenic views. If you go on a sunny day, definitely bring sunglasses and a hat. Overall, it was a fun, well-planned tour that I’d absolutely recommend! 5 out of 5!

A really nice way to visit the Arashiyama area. First a bus from Kyoto Railway Station, then an old train through the mountain to Kameoka Province and then back with the river to Arashiyama where there is time to see what to see and finally bus return to Kyoto. Everything goes professionally, all departures run on time and we had a skillful guide.

Three parts to this tour: Finding the meeting point at Kyoto Bus Station. This was difficult to find and the booth, hidden behind a roller shutter, didn’t open until a few minutes before assembly. The difficulty / stress of finding the meeting point rather took the shine off the trip. The meeting point staff took a long time to recognise the voucher document and seemed to dismiss it as invalid. The Romantic train is not properly described. In reality it was a short journey in carriages with wooden seats hauled by an old diesel saunter. The was not the slightest element of romance about it although the scenery was stunning. Lastly, the river trip could not have been better - it was a hugely enjoyable experience made even better by the entertains and knowledgable boatmen. The tour guide was charming but spoke very little English.
Boat cancelled, was just a lot of bus rides.

Not good. First, they tell you the pickup point is in two places. When we arrived they said the boat part was cancelled. We wanted our money back but the insisted we go on just the train part. Still just as long. We took a bus to the train ride. It was fine but clunky uncomfortable and not air conditioned. It was 95 degrees. After the shirt train ride we got on another bus that took us to another bus that drove us back to the start of the train. It’s was hours of bus rides - not worth it to us. The translators didn’t work so we just had the guide speaking in Japanese for hours. If you can’t get the full tour we do not recommend it!

A must see tour. Organized tour from beginning to end. Planning to return in Spring and Autumn in the near future.

Well organized, lovely air conditioned bus, audio box for English speakers, the train ride has beautiful scenery, the boat ride was great fun and the boat guides are amazingly strong rowing and directing the boat while cracking jokes - which we didn’t understand much as it’s all in Japanese - but the other passengers were kept in stitches. The atmosphere was very friendly. There was a snack boat that pulls up next to you allowing you to purchase beer, soft drinks, water and freshly grilled items! Once you reach Arashiyama , you have free time to eat, shop, and explore the bamboo forest and temples. Then back on the air conditioned bus to the station. A great experience!

It was a great experience, even though it was really hot this day. We could easily find the starting point and the bus was very comfortable. The train was nice with beautiful views of the river. The bus from the train station to the pier was comfortable and with air conditioning. The river cruise was lovely. We could also visit a temple in Arashiyama in our free time after the boat and returned to the starting point with the same bus from the beginning and also received a cooling towel to refresh ourselves after a very hot summer day. I recommend!!!

I booked this tour a few months ago and it was cancelled by the operator. There was a comment that they do not do the boat rides in the summer because the water is too low. Yesterday here in Kyoto we self-booked the “Romantic Train” after waking the bamboo forest. I see from the train that the boats are operating and filled with tourists. I was so confused about what happened with our situation and disappointed that we were not able to do it. I’m not sure why this happened.
