Local Guide
Kiyomizu-dera Temple
Kiyomizu-dera is a famous Buddhist temple located in Kyoto, Japan. It was founded in the late 8th century and is known for its large wooden stage that offers a beautiful view of the surrounding cherry trees and city. The temple is dedicated to Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy. The name "Kiyomizu" means "pure water," referring to the Otawa Waterfall flowing through the temple grounds. Kiyomizu-dera is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Kyoto’s most iconic landmarks.
Sanjusangendo Temple
It is a Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan, known for its impressive hall that houses 1,001 statues of the Thousand Armed Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy. The name "Sanjūsangen-dō" means "Hall with thirty-three bays," referring to the structure's unique architectural design. The temple was originally built in the 12th century and later rebuilt in the 13th century. It is renowned for its stunning collection of statues, all lined up in rows, creating a powerful and awe-inspiring sight. Sanjūsangen-dō is also a popular site for cultural and spiritual significance.

I enjoyed the experience so much! I have learned a new way to eat takoyaki. I also learned about the Romeo and Juliet story of Osaka. The skewers and takoyaki were must try! The tour guide is amazing ! Very knowledge and an amazing way to explain everything! Definitely book a tour with TAkuma-SAN!!

This is my first time in Kyoto Japan, and this i enjoyed a lot! Our tour guide is very friendly and passionate about this trip. There was a lot of walking but it didn't feel tiring at all. 10/10.

We had such a great time on this Kyoto walking tour! Our guide was full of energy (way more than us!) and kept us entertained with fun history tidbits and little jokes along the way. We loved the peaceful secret path in Fushimi Inari — with barely any crowds and even a bamboo forest (bonus: no need to go to Arashiyama!). We definitely wouldn’t have found or visited all these spots without our fun and knowledgeable guide. It felt like exploring Kyoto with a local friend. Highly recommended!

After the heavy rains yesterday, the sun was back this morning, perfect for the visit. We met at 8:45 in front of the Kyoto Ceramic Center, and the group left on time with Naomi, our guide. We started with Kiyomizu-dera. Quite a few people, but it was worth it: the view was clear and the place is impressive, all wooden. Then we went to Sanjūsangen-dō. The interior is very quiet, and impressive with rows of perfectly aligned statues, it is quite strong visually. And finally we took the train from Shichijō to Fushimi Inari. Instagramable place par excellence, with its famous red torii or despite the behavior of some tourists, leaving a lot to be desired, is always pleasant, even if it is a place we already know. There is always a place to discover like this bamboo forest, much quieter than that of Arachiyama. The visit went well, without pressure, with an increasingly blue sky. It was a good morning, well organized, under a beautiful sky.

This tour was the perfect way to explore three of Kyoto’s most iconic sites in just half a day. Despite visiting multiple places, the pace never felt rushed, and we had plenty of time to take in the beauty of each location. Each site was stunning in its own way, and it was fascinating to see how different they were from one another. Having a guide made a huge difference. I learned so much about the history, architecture, and cultural background that I wouldn’t have known just by visiting on my own. Her insights made the tour much more enjoyable. This is definitely a highlight tour in Kyoto. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to see some of the city’s best sights in a relaxed and informative way, even with limited time.

This was a great experience! Our guide Naomi-san helped us discover three different locations around Kyoto — Kiyomizu-dera, Sanjūsangendō and Fushimi Inari. This last one is probably the most famous and features in various films (and as a pleasant surprise, there is a small bamboo forest as well that we got to see!), but all of the locations were amazing, and each of them absolutely unique. Naomi-san was very friendly and knowledgeable and told us about the religion of Japan and the history and architecture of the temples and shrines we saw (we even learned how to pray at a Shinto shrine!). The tour involved a fair bit of walking and going up and down steps, so it was a nice workout as well. We also had a chance to take some amazing photos as we explored (Naomi-san and her colleague showed us where the best spots were and took some great group photos of us), and we even bought some souvenirs. Overall, we had a great time and I can wholeheartedly recommend Japan Wonder Travel and their tours! Thank you so much!

The tour covered a lot of topics and places, and it was always very informative. Since we had to walk a lot between the places, we were able to ask many questions and even to get to know the tour guide, Naomi, as well as the other attendees. I had a lot of fun, and I highly recommend the tour!

I had a great time learning the history and trivia about the three historic sites we visited during the tour. Naomi-san was a wonderful guide who can answer any questions we asked very well. There was a bit of walking involved but I barely noticed it because we were having engaging conversations throughout the tour. I recommend this tour to anyone who is curious about Japanese Buddhist and Shinto culture.
