This trail travels alongside Lake Dunstan on the opposite side of the lake to the road that travels between Cromwell and Clyde.

The engineering involved to create this trail is stunning with clip-ons attached to the rockface in places, the Hugo Suspension Bridge plus a very good trail surface throughout the ride.

The views and scenery on this ride are fantastic and you can fully understand the history of the area - from the goldrush to the building of NZ's largest dam - by reading the information boards along the way.

Cycle one of NZ's Great Ride Routes from Cromwell to Clyde on one of our brand new fleet of e-bikes. luxury shuttle back from Clyde to Cromwell. A 42km ride on an excellent trail - with a very good surface - that will feel like 'half the distance' on one of our e-bikes. Executive Shuttle returns you to Cromwell. This is a self guided bike ride so you are free to move along the trail at the speed of your own group. Riders should be 15 years and older (our oldest rider so far has been nearly 70), fit and confident on a bike. You will see from the photos that this is a great trip for family and friends. The e-bikes allow you to choose your own 'assistance' levels (including 'off') which ensures that no-one has to put in too much effort or is left behind trying to catch up! With great places to stop along the way including Carrick Winery, Burger & Coffee Afloat and finishing by buying a quick celebratory drink in historic Clyde before your shuttle back to Cromwell. Single Riders will be waitlisted. If you are a single rider we will contact you as soon as possible to confirm your booking.

The Lake Dunstan trail ride was great fun, very scenic, and well organized. Our guide Lori gave us all the info up front on how and where to ride, and met us along the way and at the finish, and was helpful, friendly and encouraging. The bikes were excellent, and the trail was very clear in terms of directions.

We had a great day experiencing the Lake Dunstan Trial, followed by the boat trip back to Cromwell. The tour was very well organised, the equipment was in great condition and the operators were local, professional and knowledgeable.

Great ride, beautiful! And very easy on an e-bike! Only 2.5 hours of riding time, so you can take your time, pack a lunch and enjoy it

David was very knowledgeable and made us feel comfortable riding ebikes for the first time. Trail was beautiful and we enjoyed the whole day immensely.

Brilliant day out - highly recommend Dave and his team. Excellent bikes and some good info on central Otago to go along with the stunning views. The cheese scones at the winery are to be recommended !! Take the boat trip afterwards too - you wont be disappointed.

We had an amazing day riding the Dunstan Trail. David at NZBikeTrails was an outstanding host. All the gear was first-class, his briefing clear and overall hospitality fantastic. We didn't have to worry about anything on the day, we just focused on having fun! Happy to recommend David to anyone, whether they be an experienced rider or first-time mountain biker. Cheers, Mark

What a great day out. David makes sure you have a fun and enjoyable day with a strong focus on safety. The ebikes made the ride so comfortable and as novice riders we did it easily. The 41km distance has amazing views of water, hills, peaks and flat runs. Along the way you can grab a coffee and burger from boats moored in a bay. The township of Clyde was a pleasant surprise. David’s commentary on the area helped us use our time wisely. Would highly recommend NZ Bike Trails. Plan to do the Hawea to Wanaka next time 👍🏼👍🏼

Loved, loved, loved our day on the bike for the Lake Dunstan Trail. David picked us up at our accommodation and entertained us with his commentary all the way to Cromwell for the start of the ride. He's very focussed on safety and the e-bikes were fabulous - very comfortable and responsive. My husband would have managed with a normal bike but the additional power meant that I didn't need to worry about the hills. We had a blast. The views are stupendous along the route and the engineering is a marvel. We finished in lovely Clyde with a wander around and an icecream (Nom nom) and then had a great boat trip back to Cromwell with Andy from Lake Dunstan Explorer which really topped off a wonderful day. Highly recommended!
