Lamanai Archaeological Reserve

This tour provides an an amazing trip to the famous Mayan ruins of Lamanai. The trip from the port to the river bank where the tour begins is an hours drive. You will board the boat and the river tour will begin. On this tour you will see many species of native birds, howler monkeys, and other wildlife. After the river tour, we will visit the Mayan site of Lamanai. There are several different temples that we will hike too for amazing views, photo opportunities and take in the atmosphere of this marvelous setting. After the hike, lunch will be served followed by the return journey on the river.

Our guide was very knowledgeable, and the site is beautiful! The adventure was listed as 4-hours but coming from Caye Caulker plus the time it took to get to the river, it was an all-day event (~9 hours). That was fine with us because we had not made other plans for that afternoon. This was probably my 2nd favorite land activity in Belize, right behind the ATM Cave tour.

A fantastic, educational boat ride then a stunning walk through ancient Maya. Xavier was a phenomenal guide and teacher.

Our guide Nathan was excellent at pointing out the wildlife and giving an accurate history of the Maya people and the timeline of Lamanai.

Junior was our tour guide and he was truly amazing! He would identify all types of animals and maneuver the boat to the spot to show us. He could spot these animals as he was traveling and I was amazed. We saw tree bats, crocodiles, all types of birds, a boa constrictor and howler monkeys. He was knowledgeable about the ruins and gave us insight into the Mayan culture. We also felt safe. The group was the perfect size as well. Junior, thanks so much!!!!

This was a well run tour with extremely knowledgeable guides. We began with a ride on the new river and saw some wildlife along the way. The Mayan ruins were amazing to see and our guide brought the city to life for us. The Mayans were (are) a most impressive people.
