We didn't know what to expect and were pleasantly surprised at the magnificent castle. We were visiting and onboard a ship. It was easy to just get an Uber there and back The drivers knew the history and also stopped on the way for us to photograph. The tour of the castle was fabulous. The furniture and everything has been restored and looks wonderful. Loved the restaurant in the ballroom and the homemade tomato soup. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Dunedin. View from the towereis worth the climb. Wonderful staff everywhere.

Interesting visit. An obviously family doing an amazing job. The history description video tells the story of the castles' past. Staff were courteous and helpful. Good facilities, bathrooms etc. Descriptions of the work on the greenhouses and garden could be included in the self-guided tour. The climb to the rooftop lookout is steep but short and well worth the effort required. We were knocked out by the location, incredible views and beautiful gardens. Good value for money.

Go early so not as many people. Was lovely. Would have been good to see any kitchen or servants quarters

Well worth the trip. House is interesting and the gardens very well kept. Map of the grounds could have been better. The tea and scone at the on site restaurant also added to the experience.

  • book a tour with transportation included, not just entry tickets

we purchased entry tickets for the castle presuming we would take an Uber or a Taxi to the castle. Unfortunately the cost of transportation would have been in excess of $145 so we choose to pass on the visit. In hindsight probably a better idea to book the entire tour which included transportation
