Combine a visit to the largest brown bear sanctuary in Europe with a trip to the famous Bran Castle by booking this small-group tour, which includes round-trip transfers from Bucharest. Libearty Bear Sanctuary Zarnesti

The first attraction will be the Libearty Bear Sanctuary, a territory spanning across 69 hectares of coniferous forests where you will safely observe more than 90 rescued brown bears in their natural habitat. Since all bears have been rescued from poor conditions and here they can live freely in their natural environment, the sanctuary has been recognized as the most ethical one in the world.

Bran Castle (Dracula's Castle)

The trip will continue with a one-hour drive through the Carpathian Mountains after which you will arrive at Bran Castle, also known as Dracula's Castle. This historical monument was originally a fortress built between 1211 – 1225 by the Knights of the Teutonic Order. It distinguishes itself by the imposing towers and turrets and the mystery wave that shrouds people when they cross its threshold. Also, the castle was marketed to be the home of the main character from Bram Stocker’s novel “Dracula”.

The overall experience was fantastic. Alex was an amazing driver. The bear sanctuary was highly educational and the conservation efforts were clear to see. There is an emphasis on “this is not a zoo” and that felt very true considering the sheer size of the place. We saw lots of bears and it was lovely to know that they were all living much better lives. The castle visit was also very good, although I felt it was slightly less exciting than I was expecting. Nothing to do with the tour itself but instead, just my personal feelings on the castle.

The whole day was truly fantastic. Booking through the Viator app was easy, we received whatsapp communication from our tour guide with pickup instructions within a few hours of booking (a last minute day before booking). We were picked up from our airbnb which was so helpful (at 6.30am). Our guide Angelica was fantastic - her knowledge and information of Romania was invaluable. She was so kind and helpful the whole day, making sure that everything ran smoothly for us. The bear sanctuary was incredible - you get to see these amazing animals up close, they do excellent work there, and it is difficult to leave without wanting to adopt a bear! Next onto Bran's castle - you do not need to bother with a guided tour when you have Angelica...she gives you all the history you need on the drive from the sanctuary to the castle. I suggest wandering round the castle without the tour at your own pace. You have plenty of time to walk round the market and get lunch after visiting the castle. The scenery on the drive is stunning, and it is a great way to get a feel of Romania, outside Bucharest. It was a long day, but a great day. Made all the more enjoyable by Angelica's guidance, her English is fantastic, and we learnt so much from her.

Great trip - highly recommend! Alex was very helpful before and after the tour and gave a lot of good tips & recommendations. The bear sanctuary was really interesting, although some pretty harrowing stories of their treatment before being rescued. Dracula’s castle was busy (although we went during a quieter time), but the exhibitions were good.

Tour guide was absolutely amazing and kept us well informed. The bear sanctuary is definitely worth the visit, it was great to learn about bears and see them in the wild. Dracula castle was a little underwhelming, compare to a lot of other castles we've seen while travelling, so I would not rush to see it again.

The bear sanctuary was great. Alex did a great job of getting us there in good time and we saw lots of bears! Bran castle was stunning. We saw it in snow and it was breathtaking would highly recommend.

The trip was amazing. Our tour guide Cristian was awesome 👌. The sanctuary is worth supporting. Is a long trip but worth doing it.
