We then head to the oldest Shrine in Osaka, established by the first Emperor of Japan and then to the oldest Temple in Japan, right here in Osaka.
Afterwards, we then head into a quiet entertainment district full of locals and then we top it off with Sake and local Osaka foods that you must try when you are here, at the 'heart' of Osaka; Dotonbori Street.

I was traveling by myself at the end of a trip to Japan and wanted to see as much as possible in the area of Kyoto and Osaka. My neighbors had been here in the month of June and spent a day with Richard Hawkins and highly recommended him to me. They found him on triplelights.com and I found him there as well. My day with Richard was fantastic. He is the real deal. He really knows his stuff and is full of great information, great stories and great insights. He also knows all the little, hidden, local, out-of-the-way places for delicious local treats, great sake and interesting temples and shrines that are not on everybody else’s list. We saw so many different areas and neighborhoods in one day and I had a great time. Do yourself a favor and spend the day with Richard.

We went on a tour with Richard and had a fantastic time. We really enjoyed seeing Osaka and learning many new things about Japan and the culture. Richard was very knowledgeable and willing to share with us. Our boys especially enjoyed the tour and bonded with Richard - he was great with kids. We'd definitely go on a tour with him again. Thank you very much Richard!

We spent a fascinating day with Richard touring the sacred and foodie sights of Osaka. Richard’s knowledge of Japanese history and mythology was impressive- more so than any other guide we used during our time in Japan. At the same time he made the tour a lot of fun. Loved the castle and watching Richard interact with locals at the several restaurants we visited.

I booked Richard based on his excellent reviews and I am pleased to say all my expectations were well and truly exceeded. Richard developed a custom itinerary for a tour of Osaka that gave my partner and I the chance to soak up a little bit of the culture while also eating and drinking like locals. It is noteworthy that locals remarked that we’d managed to visit a number of key areas of Osaka in a relatively short time. Richard is a knowledgeable, likable guide who is able to anticipate your needs and adapt the tour to give you the best experience. As someone from a western culture, he’s uniquely positioned to highlight local customs and points of difference that are particularly interesting to visitors. Richard has a wicked sense of humour and is generous with his advice about places to eat and things to do while in the Osaka area. My partner and I had a fantastic time with Richard and I can recommend him without any hesitation. We will be booking another tour with Richard the next time we are in Osaka!

We spent the day with Richard in Osaka, he showed us some of the highlights. Not only temples and shrines but a lot of good and really local places to enjoy Sake, Okonomiyaki and the best Sushi I have ever eaten. Would return immediately!Thank you Richard

What a great way to spend our last day in Japan. Richard has so much knowledge to share and where else can you find someone who grew up in the US, moved to Japan 35 years ago, speaks both languages fluently and walks around in a Kimono! He kept my entire family entrertained all day long, took us to spots (not just shrines and temples) we never would have found ourselves, and had great historical knowledge that he communicated in a way that kept everyone interested. My only regret is that we didn’t meet him earlier as we definitely would have hired him for a few days to show us Kyoto and Nara as well.

Really like the walking tour around all the shrines and temples. There was a street of snacks and a lot of souvenirs to buy from. Lovely experience.
