The Battle of Long Tan

Long Tan Nui Dat battlefield is the most famous battle fought by the Australian Army during the Vietnam War. This battle took place in a rubber plantation. On 18 August 2016 a low-key ceremony was held on the site of the battle; more than 1,000 Australian veterans and their families travelled to Viet Nam to participate in the 50th anniversary commemoration. The tour will begin with a departure for Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province by minivan. The local guide will take you to the site of Long Tan Battlefield where you will visit the former 1st Australian Task Force at Nui Dat.

Nui Dat hill

Our first stop-over is Nui Dat SAS Hill, where you will be shown the helicopter parking and camping areas of soldiers and explained the important sites during the war. You will have an overview of the 4 km circle of the Nui Dat base perimeter. Next, we will visit the rubber forest and pass Mong Ngua Mountain – which was used to be the shelter of Vietnamese soldiers.

Dingo Chien is a lovely man. Showed great understanding and empathy of the Australian Army experience in Vietnam. My Uncle served in 7th RAR in 1968 and Dingo made an effort to point out the specifics of that regiment (location within Nui Dat, battle sites etc). The generosity of the Vietnamese people in honouring the Australian soldiers is wonderful.

Hillbilly Jack was very informative and knowledgeable. Jacks English was amazing. We learnt a lot about Vietnam's history. But when you go to the Cross, you get goose bumps. It was a very enjoyable day. Thanks, Jack and driver Lou.

A wonderful tour with Dingo Chien and his driver. He is extremely knowledgeable on the Nui Dat base and Long Tan and even did a small memorial service at the Cross for me and provided flowers for me to lay. Also included was a walk through Long Phuoc tunnels , very interesting. This was an amazing experience and Dingo Chien is very well spoken with an abundance of information on Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War. Highly recommended.
Great tour of Nui Dat RAR base and Long Tan battlefield. We also visited the Long Tan memorial. Great English by Dingo.

Great tour of Long Tan battlefield and what remains of RAR base. Good English explanations by Dingo. Drink in Grand Hotel in Vung Tau was a bonus.

Jack was amazing. Such knowledge of the area and entire history of Vietnam. Had clearly researched battlefield areas and took us everywhere. Would highly recommend taking a tour with Hillbilly Jack. Thank you

Dingo Chien was my guide & he had such a wealth of knowledge I learnt so my. The tour was amazing I learnt to so much & it was very emotional.

We had such a wonderful day on this tour. Hillbilly Jack was an absolute superstar guide, he was so full of knowledge when it came to the battlefields but also Vietnam in general. Our day was enjoyable from start to finish. Jacks humour and vibrant personality had us hooked on every word from the moment we left Ho Chi Minh, even our 15 year old was showing interest. Would highly recommend Hillbilly Jack.

What an amazing tour!! It is one thing to see the sights but it is the host Hillbilly Jack that made the tour memorable. His wealth of knowledge, enthusiasm and humour ensured that we had a great day. It was an important tour for me as my father who recently passed was stationed in Vietnam. Hillbilly Jack made sure to point out where my father would have been stationed and was amazing to stand on the same ground my father stood. If we could give more than 5 stars we would and highly recommend this tour on your stay in Ho Chi Minh / Saigon.

Hillbilly Jack was an excellent tour guide. His English is almost perfect and he's very knowledgeable about the history of Vietnam. We enjoyed his stories, jokes and thorough history lesson during the long drive to Long Tan. Would highly recommend Jack and this tour!
